CHAPTER FOURTEEN
"Joelle. Honey, wake up." I feel my mum lightly shake my shoulders. "You're going to be late for Harry to pick you up." I hear her giggle.
"What time is it?" I say lowering my head back down into my pillow.
"It's 7:40, sweetie." My mum pushes back some of my hair behind my ears. I turn around and grumble.
"Okay. Thank you, mum." I say while trying to open my eyes.
"Just don't fall back asleep." She says and walks out of my room. I take a deep breath.
Last night has got to be one of the worst nights ever. I got back home around eight at night and had dinner with my mum. Then I watched tv with her for an hour and a half before going to my room. I was so tired and exhausted by then, but I just couldn't sleep no matter how hard I tried. I tried drinking water, counting down from 100 a few times, but it still didn't work. My mind was swirling with thoughts.
So in the end, I was texting Harry, who also couldn't sleep, until three in the morning. I eventually went into a slumber but I kept waking up every hour. My dreams were all weird, always having to do with either English class, Abby, or Sophie. I don't remember much of them, but I am glad they weren't horrifying that I would wake up crying.
I get up from my bed, and use the washroom. I quickly change into leggings and a long white tee. I put my hair into a ponytail and put white socks in my feet before going down the stairs. I could feel my eyes have dark bags underneath them but I am too tired to try to hide it with makeup.
"Morning." I say while entering the kitchen.
"Morning. Are you alright? Did you get enough sleep?" I shake my head.
"Couldn't sleep." I pour water from the kettle into a mug and place a tea bag in it. I sit down besides my mum and drink the soothing liquid. I don't have an appetite to eat.
"Everything alright?" I nod my head. I don't know how to explain this situation to my mum so I just shake the topic away. "You have an appointment this afternoon. Don't forget." This makes my heart lift up the slightest.
"I won't, trust me." I honestly say because that appointment is my ticket for no presentation.
"You better get going, I think Harry's outside." She smiles at his name. I do too and get up. "When were you going to tell me?" She asks.
"Maybe in a few days." I say unsure.
"Oh, well you guys looks really adorable. When did it happen?"
"Three days ago." I smile at her.
"Do you love him?" She wiggles her eyebrows.
"Mum." My face starts heating up. I walk to the front door, which is right besides the kitchen, and put on my jacket and boots. I hear my mum laughing.
"Bye, Joey. Have a good day at school." I walk back to her and give her a hug and kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks." I say nervously and walk out the door with my bag on my shoulder. I see Harry pull up after a few seconds and enter the car.
"Good morning, Harry." His eyes are red and there are bigger, darker bags under his eyes. It reminds me that he has his condition way worse than I do and I suddenly feel like a horrible person. I grab his hand.
"Morning, Joey." He tries to smile. He's so brave. So, so brave.
"We will be fine." I say and squeeze his hand. "We will." I repeat while looking deeply into his eyes.
