The Shop

Kailyn

"Looking for Kai," I hear a familiar voice say from the front desk, "I'll get him for you," I walk out of the break room, "I'm here," I look at Kenji standing there all smug, "What is it?" He grins, "So has your boyfriend stopped by yet?" The comment got the attention of some near by co-workers, causing my face to go flush, "No and he's not my boyfriend," I try to say loud enough to discourage any stray thoughts, "And you do realize that I am a man, right?" I ask rhetorically. "Haha, I'm just give you a hard time dude, you're too shy you need to step up some," he laughed at me. "Shut up, why are you here anyways?" I cross my arms, "Just came to look at some mods," he slimes, then leans on to the counter, "And to see if he really did stop in," Kenji put on a less joking face, "The boss is in the back I'll bring him up to discuss those, and no he hasn't come in, at least not since I've been here," I told him, "I'll get the boss," I bring the boss up front so they can talk about the new things Kenji is thinking about adding to his car, while I go back to check on the cars that were only getting minor modification.

I am looking at the last car when one of the girls from the front comes over, "So, I hear you have a boyfriend," the gossip girl says, "Uh, no I don't, Kenji just likes to say things," I continue to examine the car, "On top of that, I am a guy," I say before turning to face her, "Plus, why does everyone assume that since I'm small and quiet, I would have a boyfriend?" I stand up wiping my hands, "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean anything by it," she says with an obvious pout, "I just thought that since you guys are close that it was true," she says still not understanding that I would never tell her one way or the other. "Well the answers still no, he only said that because he thinks its funny," I start walking back towards the front, "That's all." Gosh I really don't like her, I know she's just going to try and twist my words around, like she always does. I walk through the door to the front where I left the boss and Kenji, I make my way to a free computer to log that the cars in my care are ready to be picked up, the bell to the front door jingles as I start making my way to the locker room.

"Hello," I hear the boss say, "What can we do for you," I slow down a little bit so I can still listen, "Hi, uh, I was referred to you guys by Kailyn," the familiar deep voice echoes down the hall where I was now standing, face starting to burn a little. "Oh, really, that's great," I take a deep breath and calm the feeling in my face, "What is it that you need done?" I turn back around the corner I had past a moment before, "Ah, perfect timing Kai, could you give this young man the forms to fill out while I finish here?" I glance at Kenji who is leaning over the counter smirking at me, dusting my face with pink, I bend down to get the papers form under the counter, "Um, he-here," I slide the papers to the other side of the counter, he walks over and grabs a pen, "The top is just contact in- information," he nods, "The next is any maintenance history that we should know about," I take a breath, "And lastly is just.. a uh, legal form," he is silent while filling out the papers, I feel I kept a level tone for the most part. He finishes quickly and hands the papers back to me, I put them next to the computer so I can log them later, "Um can we go... look at the damage in the light?" I ask, he just looks at me, making me blush a little harder, "So I ca-can give you a better estimate," I look to where Kenji was talking with the boss, but they are no longer there. "Oh yeah sure," he says also seeming a flustered, pulling out his keys I follow him outside. Looking at his beast of a car in the day time is much more appealing, I walk to the other side of the vehicle to the damage, "Well it's just as I said the other night, it'll only take a day, two at most to complete," I tell him as I look at his car.

"Let's... go log it in the computer," I say looking at the ground, he follows me back inside, where I log the damages as well as the paperwork in the system then I give him the estimated cost and what was going to be done. "I can start working on it tonight, and it should be done soon," I inform him. He takes his keys and places them in my hand, pausing the transaction for a moment, causing my face to color, before, he releases the keys, "Then I'll stop by tomorrow," he speaks as he turns to leave. Uhh why did he do that, is he messing with me, I blushed a harder as I feel my heart beating inside my ribcage.

Takeshi

I pull up at the address on the business card I had received last Saturday, the building was neatly tucked away on a side street, you could drive right on by and not notice it if you weren't looking for it, doesn't seem like a good business model. I remove the key from the ignition and push myself out of the car, looking to the building once more, the sign was moss green with orange letters, 'Fast Lane Auto Clinic,' "An odd choice of colors," I whisper to myself as I get closer to the door.

"Hello," I am immediately greeted, "What can we do for you," I walk to the counter where there is another customer looking at a paper, "Hi, uh, I was referred to you guys by Kailyn," as I say Kailyn's name I can see that the man at the counter seems to perk up, "Oh, really, that's great," he smiles and gestures for me to come to a different part of the counter, "What is it that you need done?" We make it the the same place as something seems to catch his attention and he looks to his right, "Ah, perfect timing Kai, could you give this young man the forms to fill out while I finish here?" I exit the building pulling out my phone to call one of the guys for a ride, but no guy is that quiet right, maybe I was mistaken the other night and she a girl... I Scratch my head and decide not to think about it any longer.

Kailyn

Watching him leave I realize that I'm still blushing, I physically shake my head resting my hands on my cheeks to try cooling them, after a few minutes I no longer see Takeshi outside and I am able to calm my racing heart and heated face. Finally composed I make my way back out to his car so I can bring it into the garage, once in I register the stall I am using and the owners requests of work in the log book. I make my way to my toolbox to get the proper equipment out, when I hear the boss call to me, "Hey, Kai, can you come up for a moment?" I nod, setting my tools back into the places they belong before heading to the bosses office. I poke my head in, "Yes," I ask as I see Kenji sitting in one of the chairs and I fulling enter the room, I bet he's going to have me order parts online, "Kenji here, wants to make an upgrade to his car," we both look at the man who was just referred to, "And I need you to place the request for the parts," the boss smiles. "What upgrades?" I ask looking at my friend, "Just thinking about some extra power for the uphill," he says grinning, smug little bastard, "If its a turbo you want, I have one in stock," I reply unamused at his antics, "Great, sounds good," he stands and looks at the boss, "Thank you again," he bows, "No, thank you for your continued patronage," he tips an imaginary hat as Kenji leaves.

Going back to the supply room I can feel eyes watching me, I glance over to the other mechanic stalls, they all seem to be working, so it can't be them, I look towards the locker rooms, and I see two giggling girls, ah them, I roll my eyes and continue. Finding the item I came for, I take it with me to check it out of stock and take it to my work station. Seeing my headphones, I feel my lips curl slightly, finally... peace, I take them and place then over my ears so I can start working.
