Takeshi

I turn the radio up just enough to drown out the intense silence as I dove to a restaurant, 'What is wrong with me,' my grip tightens on the steering wheel, I dare not glance to my passenger side as I don't think I will be able to keep myself in check. Unsure what to talk about, I just keep quiet while I navigate through the last few events that transpired.

The longer I drive the hotter the air starts to feel, unable to take the heat I move my hand to the window switch to roll it down, as we were on residential roads the sound shouldn't be a problem. As the motor begins to pull the tempered glass from its closed position, a strong breeze passes through the vehicle, like a wind tunnel. The thought causes me to look to my left, where I met Kailyn's eyes, face still shades of pink darker than his natural pigment. Another breeze sweeps loose strands of hair across his face, making him turn to stop the hair from being in his eyes. My attention is drawn to the open window on the passenger side, 'Did he need air too?' I question whether or not it was only me who was starting to not breath.

I pull into the small diner that I have become familiar with as my trips to Akina became more frequent, "I haven't been here in a while," finally, I hear my passenger's voice, after what felt like an eternity. I glance at him as he rolls the window up, a small smile on his lips, seeing him like this calms the nerves I didn't realize were on end. I smile as I open the door, "Well, I'm glad you seem fond of this place," I duck my head into the car and nod towards the building.

As we walk into the diner it seems fairly empty inside, I smile to the hostess who pops her head around the corner at the chimes above the door. I hold up two fingers and she nods, "Follow me," she says with a pep as she grabs the menus, "Is a booth alright?" she asks over her shoulder, I look to the blonde who gives a single bounce of his head, "A booth is great," I answer.

"Have you been here before?" The question comes as a bit of a surprise, "Well... Not really," I look to my counterpart to elaborate, "I've stopped in for coffee a few times when we were coming over for the challenges," I tell him, he nods, "The guys used to stop here all the time after late night runs," Kai fiddles with the edges of his sleeves, "I think mos..." his voice tappers off at the end, I wasn't able to hear the rest of it.

"Here are some menus," the server sets two bi-folded laminated tariffs down, "Can I start you off with something to drink?" She flashes a smile, "Water would be great," I look across the table where Kai nods and gestures he would also like the same, "Great, I'll be right back with those," she pockets her note pad as she walks away.

"So, a new guy at work?" I ask trying to keep the air light as we glance over our food options, "Yea, he's also an ex- exchange student," he says looking down at the flimsy food sheet, "Oh, that's cool," I hear him hum in agreement, "He's ac- actually attending m- my university this fall," he flips over the menu, "So a student mechanic who doesn't know about..." I trail off as street racing is very illegal and opt to gesture to myself. Kailyn looks to me as I am pointing to myself as reference to illegal racing, he lets a smile spread on his lips, 'There it is,' "We- we'll teach h- him what he's missing," I can't help the grin that plasters across my face, "Good," I say leaning back into the cushion of the booth.

"So, a new guy at work?" The question comes in a light tone as we glance over our food options, "Yea, he's also an ex- exchange student," I answer keeping my eyes down not really reading anything on the menu that was in front of me, "Oh, that's cool," he responds quickly and I give a hum in agreement, "He's ac- actually attending m- my university this fall," I flips over the flimsy sheet, "So a student mechanic who doesn't know about..." Takeshi's words trail off making me look up. I see him pointing to himself, 'Is he referring to street racing?' I feel the distinct pull of a smile breaching my face at his antics, "We- we'll teach h- him what he's missing," I stutter out as I see a grin plastered to his face, "Good," he states more with mocked confidence then what I knew he meant, I let out a small laugh.
