Dear Diary,
I'm so embarrassed, and ashamed, and hurt! Nothing went as I had planned, and because of me, Anakin was almost killed!
When I went to the meeting, Nute Gunray was already annoyed with Viceroy Organa. In my Alderaanian robes, I joined Bail's side in the heated discussion.
But suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I saw him! Anakin! He was discreetly walking by in a guard's uniform. I lost focus on the conversation at hand and tried to figure out what my husband was doing on Alderaan.
Bail was able to win the debate with the Trade Federation and they were fined with illegal transporting through Alderaan's personal trade routes. But I had quickly lost interest and excused myself. I entered the room I had seen Anakin go through which turned out to be a docking bay. I heard distant blaster fire and shouting. I knew that wherever Anakin was, there was a fight going on. My heart thumped loudly and I followed the chaos of noise into a fueling chamber where two men with electric blue lightsaber were fighting battle droids. It was Anakin and his master, Obi-wan! I froze in place but the squad of droids spotted me.
"Hey, you're not supposed to be in here! Blast her!" the lead droid commanded. Anakin turned abruptly to see me shaking nervously in front of the mess. "Padme!?!" He and his master shouted in unison. I darted for the exit but droids followed me. I heard the hum of a lightsaber come closer to me. The slicing of metal pierced my ears along with the wails of robots.
"Padme!" Anakin called. I stopped in my tracks and spun around. The fallen droids lay helpless on the ground. Anakin rushed to me, I wanted to hug him but Obi-wan was right behind him. "Padme, what are you doing here?" He demanded. I stuttered, "I- I- I was helping..." Anakin frowned, "You shouldn't be here M'lady. It isn't safe."
I was shocked that he called me that. M'lady. He may be in Jedi mode, but a little less formality would have helped. "I'm sorry Ani- Anakin!" I sputtered. I couldn't believe it. I had almost called him Ani. He stared down for a moment. Obi-wan joined him, "What in the blazes are you doing here?" Anakin had a stone cold expression plastered on his face, "Leaving," he answered, "Obi-wan, we need to alert Kit Fisto that the Trade Federation brought a few friends with them." Obi-wan nodded, "I agree my Padawan. I'll do that while you see to it that the Senator finds her way out of here."
Anakin nodded. Obi-wan ran off leaving my husband and I sanding alone. "Thank the Force you didn't get hurt!" he whispered with a smirk. I was still a little shaken and I stepped closer to Anakin. "Oh, Anakin," I began. But Anakin grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the way back, "We need to get you out of here!"
I kept my feet planted in place, "Anakin, I'm sorry..." my voice trailed as if there was more, but I couldn't think of anything.
Anakin placed his hands on my waist and pulled me close, "Hey, it's okay, Padme. You're fine and that's all that matters to me."
I stared into his intense eyes. In a second, another blaster fire met my ears and Anakin stiffened. He cried out in pain, "Aaaagh!"
A trail of smoke rose from him left shoulder blade. He stumbled back and dropped to his knees. "Anakin!" I screamed. My husband had been shot!
Anakin clutched his shoulder and stood up slowly, "Go!" he barked. Droids appears behind him and I hesitated. He could I leave my wounded husband alone? I shook my head, "But, Anakin-" I sputtered. He pulled out his lightsaber and clenched his teeth, "Padme, go!" he growled. Anakin swung through a few droids and winced in pain. He was injured, I couldn't leave.
Fighting past the pain, Anakin jammed his sword into another metal skeleton. He turned back to me with fire in his eyes, "Padme! I said go!" he yelled forcefully. His voice echoed through the chamber and I finally ran.
With tears in my eyes, I returned to Bail's conference room. The Trade Federation was scrambling it the door screaming "retreat".
Bail rushed me to my ship telling me I would be okay. But my mind kept playing the scene over and over again. Anakin got shot. My husband had gotten shot. It was my fault to!
The tracking device told me Anakin was leaving Alderaan too. I keep telling myself that it means he will be okay. At least he got out of there.
But I can't stop telling myself that I am to blame for Anakin's suffering. I'm dying of guilt right now!
