Rats, Snakes and an Arch

III Year

"So tell me, how did it feel" Said Nikki

"Well, I have felt it before with him-" Said Bailey

"I know you have felt it before, I want to know how it felt."

"Well...it felt like some sort of electricity had just passed between us and—"

"SHUSH now girls!" Said Professor Trelawney

Bailey arrived at Hogwarts safely after the incident on the train. She and Nikki decided to take all their classes together and arranged it as so. (Bailey insisted to drag in Augustus too)

"As I was saying, It is a Gift granted to few. You, boy!" She said suddenly to a Slytherin boy named Theodore who's now looking frightened. "Does your little brother have a pet spider at home?"

"Yes.."

"It might have got lost.." Professor Trelawney Said, "Make sure to check your bed tonight before you sleep."

Theodore gulped and the person next to him moved his chair slightly away from him.

Proffesor Trelawney continued placidly, "We will be covering the basic methods of Divination this year. The first term we shall progress to palmistry. By the way, my dear," she shot suddenly at Pansy, "Be careful what you wish for." Professor Trelawney smiled at her and Bailey tried to contain her giggles when she saw the worried expression on Pansy's face.

"In the summer term," Professor Trelawney went on, "we shall progress to the crystal ball - if we have finished with fire-omens, that is. Unfortunately, classes will be disrupted in February by a nasty bout of flu. I myself will lose my voice. I wonder dear" she said surprisingly to Nikki, "If you could pass me the largest teapot?"

Nikki stood up, took an enormous teapot from the shelf and put it down on the table infront of Professor Trelawney.

"Thank you, my dear. Incidentally, if you keep that secret in you for longer, it'd become worse"

Nikki looked taken aback, like someone has just insulted her. But she sat down anyways, a look of loath on her face. "Remind me again why we decided to take this class?" Nikki asked

"I-I -We thought it'd be cool.." Bailey said, a look of confusion on her face as a feeling of betrayal started creeping into her. What secret did Professor Trelawney mean? They always told each other everything and there were no secrets between them.

The class went on and everyone were divided into pairs except for Augustus but Professor Trelawney kindly agreed that he could be a third person and sit with the pair of Bailey and Nikki.

The Emerald Trio drank their tea and passed their Teacups to each other after following Professor Trelawney's instructions. By now Augustus had Bailey's teacup, Bailey had Nikki's and Nikki had Augustus'.

"Okay Nikki, you go first" Bailey said.

Nikki examined Augustus' cup while consulting the copy of Unfogging the Future. "It looks like some type of a curve," She then looked at it from a different angle, "Nope, it's an Arch" she flipped through some pages and said, "It says here 'The Arch is a sign of hope; your ambition may be gratified in the most unexpected manner.'"

They both looked up at him. He seemed to know what it meant.

"Okay Gus, your turn,"

Augustus twisted Bailey's cup in several directions. "It looks like some type of an animal," He twisted the cup again, "Oh, they're rats"
