Magic Hands

Chapter 10

*Ashley POV*

I'd seen the movie before, so I knew when it was starting to end. I started trying to work out my next move.
I slowly started pulling my arm out from behind Tobin, trying my best not to disturb her sleep too much. I could feel Kelley's eyes on me the entire time.

"Hey I'm gonna go get a cup of tea from the dining hall before bed if you wanna come?"
Her question surprised me, and when she saw my face she started to back track, "ah no pressure, it's fine if you just wanna head to bed, I know you've had a long day looking after that idiot over there".

Before I realised it, I'd agreed and we were making our way out the room.
When I glanced back Tobin was snuggling into her quilt further. There was no way she was going to be awake again until tomorrow morning.

We didn't talk on our way to the hall. Instead I remained silent while Kelley hummed a tune that was probably on a never ending loop in her head.
After getting our teas we sat down and started to drift into comfortable conversation.

"So you didn't used to be one of the medics here right? Like for the team? What did you do before us?"

"Yeah, I've only been with the team for about 2 months now, and since you've not been in camps all that much I haven't had a chance to meet most of the players"

"I bet there's a certain player you're wishing you get to know, huh" she smirked.

"Haha I mean... maybe. No, actually no. I'm a professional and I'm here to do my job"

"Ash, look. Tobin has been through a lot. She doesn't open up to people all that much. So if you're one of the few that she does, you need to be there. You can't just up and leave okay? She's one of my best mates"

"She seems like a really great person. I have no intentions of hurting her. Don't worry, I'll step back and not get involved at all"

"Oh no!! That's not what I meant! Please don't let me saying anything stop you. God knows Tobin needs some action..." I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks  "You seem great, and you seem to care about her. So I've got your back, alright? I just felt that I needed to do the best friend pre warning of 'don't hurt my friend'"
I just hummed in response.

We made our way out of the dining hall since we'd finished our teas. When we split ways Kelley turned to me
"Hey Ash? Oh yeah I'm calling you Ash from now btw. You seem chill, I hope Tobin isn't an idiot and you chill with us more"
"Haha thanks Kelley, I hope so too. And hey, now that you're calling me Ash, you're giving me permission to call you a friend. And on that basis, I have a few questions that I've been wanting to ask about you. But we'll save that for another day... Night Kelley"
She looked slightly concerned but said goodnight before returning to her room, deep in thought.
