She Woke Up Before Noon

I saw Arden every night, for 2 weeks. Consistently, she always showed up, and she always made my day.

But then, the week before summer break, I saw her. It was 10 o'clock in the morning.

I thought she didn't wake up before noon.

She was standing in the court yard. She wore a pretty floral dress. Her tan, muscular legs were accentuated by the 3 inch, wedged heals she was wearing.

Her hair was down, pulled to one side. Her messy waves scattered over her shoulder, forming together to present themselves in such a beautiful disaster; a perfect mess. Just like Arden herself.

She was with a man and a woman. The man wore khaki pants with a long sleeved button down shirt; cuffed at the elbow. The woman wore a skirt and a pretty pink blouse.

It wasn't rocket science. It didn't take much for me to realize who the people were. They were her parents. They'd obviously come to visit her, why wouldn't they? They were her parents, after all. I'm sure they loved and missed her, as any good parents should.

I pulled out my phone, quickly hitting the number 2 and watching as it dialed the speed dial number I had saved.

"You've reached Gemma. If it's important, leave a message and I'll call back. If not, I'll probably still call back. Bye!"

"Hey Gem. I was, I was just wondering-uh- how mom was, and when you were gonna come visit like you promised. Ya know, at Christmas? You swore you'd see me. Just thought I'd call for the billionth time since then. Call me ba-"

I ran out of time in my message.

I angrily shoved my phone in my pocket, continuing my walk to the library. I passed Arden and her family on the way over. She laughed and threw her head back, the way I'd made her giggle so many times before. Her father leaned forward, embracing her in a warm hug; kissing her on the forehead the way any good father should.

I quickened my pace, trying desperately to make it to my destination.

"Harry Styles!"

"Library boy!"

"Harry!"

Suddenly, a small hand rested on my shoulder. I turned, only to be greeted by a warm, genuine small.

"Harry, come meet my parents. I was just telling them all about you." She exclaimed, her eyes filling with excitement at the mention if her parents.

"No that's-that's okay, Arden. You have fun."

"No, Harry! C'mon they're dying to meet you. I simply won't take no for an answer!" She argued playfully. Sadly, I wasn't in the mood, no matter how beautiful she looked, or how much I wanted to just kiss her.

"Well that's the only answer I've got. Sorry to disappoint. I must be going now." I grumbled, turning away. Her small hand slipped into mine, gently pulling me back.

"Harry, what's wrong? Did-did I do something?"

"Yes."

"Well tell me so I can fix it, dummy." She joked. If only she could see I wasn't kidding this time.

"You woke up before noon." I said sternly, pulling away. I walked swiftly, leaving Arden confused. I turned my head, watching her as I walked away. She just stood there, watching me with confusion and pain ridden on her expression.

Truthfully, I wasn't angry at her. More at what she had. She had 2 parents, who loved her. Her mum and dad came all the way from America to see her, meanwhile I can't get my absent sister to visit me from 45 minutes away.

Her family loved her. My father left, my mother can't remember me, and my sister didn't care. So no, as amazing as Arden was, I didn't want to sit and watch her prance around with all the things I'd wanted my whole life.

So with that, I walked as fast as I could. When I made it to the library, I made my way to the very back. I sat at the table where Arden and I met, and continued to meet everyday for 2 weeks.

I pulled out my sketch pad and pencils, and just drew. I didn't pay attention to what I was drawing, or where my hand was moving. I just let myself go. I didn't erase anything, I just drew and drew pencil mark over pencil mark until I saw I had no room left to draw.

When I looked down, I saw what I had drawn. I mean, I really saw it.

It was Arden and I.
