Chapter one-I walk home from school. (Shocker, I know)

Today was surprisingly odd.

I couldn't help but notice a trail of feathers behind me as I walked to school, and I swear a bird tried to bring me a bottle cap. Another one actually did, and I held it as I watched its white wings flutter away.

I'm actually glad I went to school today, which is a first. In History we learned about my species, human, landing on this planet. Stuff about getting trapped here and an evil force and prophecies. Sounds like a cliche first book. Our teacher also said that since we'd learned to travel faster, we'd be able to go back to Earth soon. It would be nice to see where I was made to live. Sure, I've seen pictures my parents happened to bring here, but that's about it. I want to know where I was truly made to be.

Anyway, the most surprising part of today was when I was walking home from school.

I was surveying the buildings around me, seeing how the tinted windows glimmered in the air. It was probably 10 minutes before I should've gotten home, and I was near a sort of low building.

While I was walking home, I thought about the fight I'd had with my best friend, Nyla. She was mad at me because I dropped the birthday present she gave me a few months ago, and it kind of escalated.

I spotted my sister nearby, working on a movie set.

My older sister, Tara, has silky black hair just like mine, but long instead of short. She had my pitch black eyes, and half Arabian, half Hawaiian features. Tara is a lot taller than me—five inches— but that's because she's a fully grown, 6'0 adult, (she's been working for 4 years) and I'm only fifteen.

Or at least I hope that's why.

Tara is a cameraman—or in this context, camerawoman— for some new movie, "Sap light".

It makes more sense in the Native language of Tauren, as English is my second language. I liked some of the previous ones she's worked on, but this one is...

I looked up and waved at her. She ran over and waved back at me. All of a sudden, something happened. People screamed. Tara screamed. There was a flash of blonde hair, and my sister was falling.
