"Why did you call me Jess?" I asked Danny the next day at school.
"Because," he said, dragging out the word, "Eric has already told them about his girlfriend, Flora."
We were sat in the lunch hall, finishing our food, when Eric stormed in.
"According to Dad." he said angrily in Danny's direction. "You have a girlfriend called Jess with amazing red hair and eyes as deep as the ocean and he walked in on the two of you last night. So, Flo, where were you, my girlfriend, when Danny was having fun with Jess last night?"
"I.. I." I didn't know the answer to that. I mean, it was all his fault. If he hadn't assumed anything to early I wouldn't have decided to breakup with him. Which I still have to do I reminded myself. "We" I said, emphasising the we, "are over." I finished and then I started to cry.
Eric at first was shocked. Then he was angry. Then he was sad. And at last he was worried. He stepped towards me and lay a hand on my shoulder awkwardly.
"What did I do?" he said quietly. "How can I keep your beautiful face from being smudged by yet more tears?" My heart melted. He called me beautiful. "Please tell me where I went wrong." he finished and looked at me from under his dark eyelashes with his whirlpool eyes and I forgot why I did breakup with him. Did he push me too far?
No, he defiantly didn't do that.
Did he cheat on me?
No, that was Jon.
Did he lie to me?
Yes, but that wasn't the reason, ummm. That was it, he accused me of cheating on him with his brother.
But, he hadn't known the facts, I can't just break up with him....
Yes you can.
Wait was I argueing with myself? Again? I need to see a doctor.
"I'm sorry." I said, I wanted him back, "I shouldn't have done that. I over re-acted." Danny looked at me with sad eyes and I felt suddenly very guilty. I wiped the tears from my cheeks and looked up at Eric, who looked back at me.
"You're forgiven." he said softly, "You will always be forgiven." he pulled me to my feet and I suddenly realised we had an audience. Every single pair if eyes in the hall was on me, inclueding the twins and Sophie. As my cheeks covered themselves in another coat of red, Eric pulled me into his chest and I wrapped my arms around his neck. He held me close and I felt something new, somthing strange, and I am sure it was called love.
