Riley POV

"Riley!"

I groan.

"Riley! Open the window!"

I huff as I slowly open my eyes, and look at the alarm clock next to my bed. 2:49 am. I groan again and turn my head to face the bay window where the rapping and voice I could recognize anywhere was coming from, and my heart flutters.

What the fuck?

I get out of bed and walk to the window, and open it, letting in a shivering and wet Maya Hart from the rain.

"Maya, what are you doing here?" I rub my eyes, hoping to rub the sleep out of my eyes. "It's almost 3 am. And raining. What's going on?" I ask, and then yawn. Maya climbs in and sets down a duffle bag that looks to be full of clothes.

"I needed to get away. Mom and Shawn were... well.. that's beside the point.. and I couldn't sleep." She says, making me cringe at the thought, as she shakes her head slightly, water dripping down from her hair, over her face, over her lips...

I shake my head and look at her, a slight blush forming on my cheeks, and I'm grateful the room is dark. "Let's get you changed." I say softly and walk to my dresser, which has a drawer full of Maya's pajamas that she's left over at my house. I grab a loose band T-shirt and a pair of pajama pants for her to put on. I smile at myself and walk back to her, and hand her the clothes. She smiled warmly, and graciously took them from me and pulled her shirt over her head. I look away from her as she changes, then I hear the bedroom door open slowly. She must be going to the bathroom. Even though we've known each other since we were five, even 12 years later I feel weird watching her change.

As she's changing, my mind wanders to how I felt when the water was dripping down Maya's face, and how my eyes lingered on her lips. I guess I got a little... distracted... by that, but that doesn't mean anything. Right?

"I hope you don't mind that I came over..." Maya says as she walks into the bedroom with a towel in her hand as she dries her hair. She's also taken off her makeup too, and I can't help but stare in awe at how beautiful she is with the moonlight hitting her face as she walks in.

Beautiful..? All best friends think that of each other.

"I- I don't mind. At all. You're always welcome." I say and give her a smile. She nods and smiles back at me, then walks to the bed and lays down on "her side" of the bed. I lay down next to her, with my back to her. I stay this way for a few moments, before I feel the bed shift, and suddenly her arm snakes around my waist, and I can feel her snuggling into my back. I freeze, and don't dare move. "I hope this is okay.." She whispers, and I feel her breath on the back of my neck. My heart is speeding up as I feel her hands on the slight amount of bare skin of my stomach that is exposed.

I nod slightly. "Yeah. It's okay." I whisper back, and I pray to whoever will listen that she doesn't feel my heart racing, although I think I feel hers at the same speed as mine.

She nods simply, and after a few minutes, her breathing evens out, and I know she's fallen asleep. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding, I bite my lip slightly, and then it dawns on me.

I like my best friend. I like Maya. And I always have.
