Maya POV

You can do this.

The blonde took a deep breath as she ran her shaky hand through her hair.

Riley's easy to talk to.

She looked around the brunette's bedroom and smiled. She had decided to leave school early and beat her back to Riley's place. She was almost shaking from the nerves coursing through her. They graduate in a day, and the blonde decided that she wasn't leaving high school and her best friend without telling her the truth.

"What if she hates me? What if she thinks I'm-"

"Hey peaches. Who are you talking to?"

The blonde jumped when she heard the soothing and familiar voice of her best friend behind of her. She turned her head towards the voice, her mind beginning to blank on what she wanted to talk about.

"I- uhm.."

She hadn't really seen the brunette much that day due to her nerves. It forced her to stay farther away from her than she would have liked, and because of that, seemingly didn't see her best friend at all. Riley was wearing a pair of short black jean shorts, with a floral, almost see through blouse, and sandals, and her hair was flowing down her shoulders.

She's beautiful.

Maya shook her head lightly to try and regain her thoughts. Riley has now moved so she was standing in front of the blonde, and held out her hands.

Maya's mind began to race. She didn't think that she would get to this point, and now that she's here, she doesn't know what to do. Everything that could possibly go wrong here, is now running through her head as possible scenarios. Every way that Riley would react was implanting itself in her head.

"Maya? What is it?"

Her voice seemed to vibrate through her head, leaving echoes of each word, and the genuine concern in her voice proved that she cared and wanted to help.

"Is it Lucas? Because we broke up? Do you like him again?" The words seemed to go through Maya's ears without her mind fully comprehending what was being said, until a few seconds later.

"Lucas? No, not really." And that was the truth.

"Then what is it? You're making me nervous-"

"I'm gay."

A moment of silence passed between the two of them, Maya's words setting themselves deep into Riley's mind, and into her own. She had never said that out loud before. Not for 19 years.

"I'm gay and- I- I was afraid to tell you."

Her heart was racing as Riley stared at her, her eyes and face seeming to show that she was thinking.

"If you hate me, that's fine. I just need to know."

Another pause as Maya waited for a response.

"I need to know, Riley. I need to know if I've just lost my best friend." There were tears threatening to fall from the blonde's blue eyes, emotion overcoming her with each word.

"I need to know if you hate me. If you think I'm- I'm gross, or disgusting, or just anything! I need to know, Riles. Please."

She was crying now, standing completely still as she begged for Riley to react. She wasn't sure how she would react, but this silence was by far the worst thing that could have happened. Or maybe she wasn't reacting yet, because she knew that Maya wasn't finished.

"And- and I like you! I have since we were in middle school! Since I climbed in through your bay window and we snuck off to the subway for the first time. Since we sat in the front of Matthew's class and learned a life lesson everyday. Since I told Lucas to date you, because I knew how much that would make you happy." She took a deep breath as she tried to collect herself.

"I have loved you, every single minute, since you taught me what real love was." She laughed as tears began rolling down her face again. "God I sound like a fucking moron." She mumbled as she wiped her eyes.

"But it's all true."

Riley finally let out a small breath, knowing that she was finished talking.

"And the 'love triangle'?" She asked softly.

"I kind of figured it was because I was liked you, I was trying to become you." The answer was quiet, so quiet that Maya almost hear it herself. And she waited for Riley to respond. To react.

"You've loved me... for 5 years?" Her voice was soft, and a small smile began to form on her lips.

"Yeah, yeah I have."

Maya thought of every possible way that Riley could react. But what she didn't expect, was the brunette to grab her face and pull her into a loving kiss.

Maya immediately melted into the kiss, and wrapped her arms around Riley's waist, pulling her closer. It felt as if electricity began to dance on her lips, and move down and throughout her entire body. Maya had kissed people before, but nothing felt like this.

"Riley I-"

"I love you too."
