Packets, folders, and a bunch of pens. This is what orientation is, an inside guide to everything you will ever need to know about the school, even what size sheets you need for your bed. Right now, Rebe, Gemma, and I are sitting in an auditorium filled with bored students and nervous looking parents.
There are four student speakers ranging from past freshmen to future seniors as well as the president of the school giving us a lecture, on how college prepares you for the future.
Normally, I would be paying attention but Gemma fell asleep on my shoulder twenty minutes ago and Rebe is loudly flirting with some guy who wants to major in Horticulture.
Let's just say he has a lot of time on his hands and none of it involves planting Petunias. So now, I am reading up on school safety, trying to ignore snoring and hair twirling.
"Gemma! Gemma, wake up!" I yell as I shake her out of her slumber.
"Huh, El, um sorry Hun" Gemma yawns and stretches kicking the seat in front of her. It's been the longest hour and a half of my life and now we can finally eat!
"I'm starving! That was such a waste of time!" Rebe exclaims as we walk out of the auditorium and out into the center of campus.
We decide to go to the cafeteria again in a second attempt to get food. When we get there it's impossible to find a seat and there is barely any food left.
"Maybe we should just go to the Hub, that insanely hot guy was telling us about! OMG, I could definitely get used to seeing a guy like him around!" Rebe gushes doing a little skip dance thing.
Gemma makes a weird noise that sounds like a dying cat and I just laugh because we all know where this is going.
"Yeah, well hopefully there isn't a long line and we get good seats," I say as we head to the Hub. We get our food, eat, and then go back to our room.
It's only 6 pm and I'm desperate for sleep, meanwhile, Rebe keeps going on and on about Tim, the plant major.
"OMG! Tim was so cute and he invited us to a party Thursday night. We should totally go!" Rebe shouts excitedly dancing around the room.
I swear that girl has way too much energy or she must drink too much coffee.
...
People always say that the first day of school is always the hardest. Well, it's 8 am on a Monday and I'm having a hard time figuring out what to wear to my 9 am Bio lecture. When I got my schedule yesterday, I couldn't understand why biology was even on my schedule.
I don't have any classes with Rebe (thank Zeus!) and I have a 200-level English class with Gemma. I tested out of the required freshman English because I'm a nerd and I like to read... A lot.
After I shower and ponder over whether I should wear jeans or shorts, I get a text from my mom wishing me good luck and smiley face emojis.
After I change into my clothes and grab my bag, I'm off to find my class. My lecture is near the school's entrance identical to the rest of the brick buildings on campus, only there is a sign saying "Newton Science Building."
When I walk into my class inside one of seven of the lecture halls, there are about 20 people already seated. As soon as the professor walks in with his Einstein mess of a toupee and glasses circa 1980, I can just tell this is going to be a long and interesting class...
"El! Wait up! Let's walk to class together. I'm so lost!" Gemma cries, looking flustered as she catches up with me outside of my bio class.
"I just had Chemistry with the coolest teacher ever! Like we don't get homework, just a midterm and a final. How awesome is that, El?" Gemma laughs putting her arm around me as we walk to English.
When we get there, 15 upperclassmen are already seated playing on their phones and chatting about summer vacation. About 15 or more students pile in before the professor arrives leaving us to take window seats across from each other. As I'm about to take out my notebook I feel a tap on my shoulder.
"Hey, frosh! What are you doing here?" the girl with the nose ring and red streaks in her hair asks, sitting behind me.
"I'm taking this class, I tested out of freshman English," I say searching for a pen. "Awesome, I'm Sloan by the way, sorry I ditched you the other day. I had places to go." She says picking her already chipped neon pink nails.
"It's okay, I found my way around eventually. Oh, and I'm Elise" I say glancing at her before the professor walks in.
For the rest of the class, we introduce ourselves and discuss the syllabus.
**I'm sorry for not uploading in a few days! I was a little busy this weekend. Enjoy :P**
