She sat down on the cold ground outside of the house. It turned into the night a long time ago, but she couldn't get any sleep. Wis decided to stay out and just sit while it snowed. It was definitely a bad idea, but she didn't mind it so much. The human sighed quietly.
She felt really tired. She had to agree with that. Her eyes were still a bit red from crying when she woke up from the system, and there was still a knot that kept on twisting in the pit of her stomach. The female brought her legs to her chest and placed her head on her knees.
Wis then heard the sounds of shuffling behind her, and a sudden chill of tremor ran through her. But a sudden warmth enveloped her. The blonde was startled and looked up to see bloody eyes glancing down at the girl.
"Matteus?"
The demon didn't wear anymore of those ragged clothes. Instead he wore some sort of armor. Inspecting it closer, the armor looked like it was made of dark essences. The dark magic was practically oozing out of him. His hair was still messy and the horns somehow seemed even more terrifying. "What are you doing out here?" She questioned once more.
"Master," he started, "why are you out here?"
"Ah? I couldn't sleep. I thought... you could only come up when I call you." She supposed that he had enough power to get up on the surface. But why had he come? "Did you need something?"
"I saw the little dispute you had earlier today." The demon took a closer step to her and bent down to fix the cloak he wrapped around the human. "It made me laugh."
"You did?"
"It was funny."
"Wait a moment... was that you who caused the ground to shake?" Wisteria quickly looked at him. "That was you wasn't it?"
He shrugged at her and sat down beside the human. Matteus gave out a quiet sigh and looked over at the tired human, whose frown deepened further. He asked, "You freed me... why?"
"I needed power." Was all she said.
He rose a brow. "I knew that, but what for?"
Wis sat in silence. The reason was mostly for the task presented at that time, but now there was a different case. There was something that ached in her stomach and nagged in her mind. There was a feeling, a very bad premonition. She felt nervous. "I need you to watch over my caretaker and Wisp."
"Delilah?"
"You know her name?"
"I have been watching over you." Wisteria pursued. He kept glancing.
"So what's the story behind the ring?" She wanted to talk about a different topic. The girl doubted that she had the strength to talk about wanting power... the idea seemed unappealing to her.
Matteus looked at the old ring around her finger. "Before... the world was very different. That time was chaotic and pandemonium was happening between the gods. Angels and demons were fighting against one another while the gods had tension around each other. The demons who didn't die were captured to be slaves, and a minor god had purchased me. My master gave me that ring to watch over me, it sealed our bond even more. After that, I was content with the peace and glad that I didn't need to fight anymore. My master had also treated me well... but when another fight broke out, the god of calamity sent all of his abominations and fought against all of the gods."
Wisteria perked her head up. Septimus did what?
"I do not know the reason. But since that happened, all of the gods even minor ones had to be sent down to exterminate the demons and send Lord Septimus down to hell. My master had been one of the many minors to die, but before he left, he gave me the ring." Matteus slouched in exhaustion as the memory took him back to that time of bitterness. "He wanted me to find another master to serve, or at the very least run away. I wanted to run, but Lord Septimus had captured me and imprisoned me in that tree. My crime was going against him when I should've been his loyal servant."
