"What was Will saying? Like home... Like home but dark?" Mike asked as he stroked Tee's head. Her head was on his lap as she slept, completely drained from what had happened.

"And empty," Lucas added, his voice quiet and low from the shock and sadness at the fact his friend was alive but not safe.

"Empty and cold," Dustin added before scrunching his eyebrows up. Mike stood up and carefully placed a pillow under Tee's head that she instantly cuddled into, "Wait, did he say cold?"

"I don't know," Lucas sighed, "The stupid radio kept going in and out." Trying to desperately remember what was said.

"It's like riddles in the dark," Dustin mumbled as he tilted his head back, trying to wrap his head around the situation they were in.

"Like home," Mike thought for a moment. "Like his house?"

"Or maybe like Hawkins," Lucas added, pointing at Mike as thoughts turned into ideas.

"Upside down." Eleven spoke up for the first time since they'd arrived back at Mike's. She was sitting by Tee's feet, messing with her hands.

"What'd she say?" Lucas asked, scrunching his face up in confusion. She made no sense and Lucas didn't trust her at all - all El had done is lead them in the wrong direction, why would she help now?

"Upside down," Mike repeated, understanding what was said. The D&D board made sense now - when she's flipped it over.

"What?" Lucas asked again - still not understanding.

"Upside down," Mike spoke again, running over to the D&D board, "When El showed us where Will was, she flipped the board over, remember?" He said flipping the board onto the black side, "Upside down. Dark. Empty."

"Do you understand what he's talking about?" Lucas asked Dustin as he sat down.

"Nope," Dustin said shaking his head. Mike rolled his eyes at his friends.

"Guys, come on, think about it," Mike said to the two, "When El took us to find Will, she took us to his house, right?"

"Yeah," Lucas said, "And he wasn't there."

"But what if he was there?" Mike asked him, "What if we just couldn't see him? What if he was on the other side? What if..." Mike flips the board onto the colourful side and points at it with his pointer finger, "this is Hawkins and this..." he flipped it back, "is where Will is? The Upside Down."

"Like the Vale of Shadows," Dustin realises as Tee begins to wake up. Dustin runs to grab the dnd book as Mike walks over to Tee.

"Good morning," Mike says with a small smile as Tee rubs her eyes, "how are you feeling?"

"I've b-been better," she tells him as she sits up. He sends her a small smile and she sends him one back, staring at eachother in silence for a moment before Dustin spoke up.

"The Vale of Shadows is a dimension that is a dark reflection or echo of our world," he reads from The broken D&D book. "It is a place of decay and death, A plane out of phase. A place of monsters. It is right next to you, and you don't even see it."

"An alternate dimension," Mike whispers.

"But how how do we get there?" Lucas asks quietly - growing increasingly worried for his friend.

"You cast Shadow Walk," Dustin answers.

"In real life, dummy," Lucas rolls his eyes.

"We can't shadow walk, but maybe they can," Dustin says looking over at El as she wiped blood away from Tee's nose and ears with a rag she'd grabbed.

"Do you know how we get there? To the Upside Down?" Mike asks the two, still standing next to Tee. They both shake their head. However, while Tee was telling the truth...

El was not.
