Listening to the cicadas holler from the porch is one of the two boys' favorite things to do on early summer nights. Otto usually turns in early for bed since he has work, but Awsten only works weekends, and Geoff works online, so they're free to stay outside and listen to the endless chatter for as long as they like.
Awsten often becomes entranced by the black satin sky, and all Geoff can do is watch the purple-haired boy's eyes trace the southern constellations. The entire night sky's beauty is nothing compared to his lover.
"The cicadas are speaking to me," Awsten begins, and Geoff rolls his eyes jokingly.
"What're they sayin', peach?"
Awsten pretends to listen for a moment. "They're saying you're a dork."
Geoff laughs, and the sound is swallowed up by the bugs harmonizing. Awsten still appreciates it, though.
"Oh yeah, I agree. He's that too," Awsten continues his joke, and Geoff gasps.
"Hey now! Quit talkin' shit about me with a bunch of bugs!"
Awsten throws his head back laughing, and Geoff watches him in awe. The brunet is so drawn into his thoughts of the boy next to him that he doesn't see Awsten turn his head to look at him after his laughing fit.
The purple-haired boy blushes, and Geoff observes the pink spreading across his cheekbones. Awsten turns away while giggling.
"Why're you lookin' at me like that? Stop it," the purple-haired boy mumbles out, glancing at Geoff again with a shy smile.
"You're just so pretty," the brunet whispers, and the tips of Awsten's ears turn red.
"Oh hush," the shy boy bashfully says and leans toward Geoff. He captures Geoff's lips with his own in a sweet kiss.
It's a simple act of affection, and both boys think it's just right for the warm night under the iridescent stars.
The cicadas chitter back and forth about the kiss, exclaiming in waves of voices.
"Now the cicadas are talkin' to me," Geoff whispers as he pulls away from the gentle boy in front of him.
"What're they saying"?
"They're sayin' you're cute."

The purple-haired boy drifts off to sleep fairly easily that night. Despite taking a nap after his panic attack, he's still exhausted. He and Geoff decided to begin sleeping in the same bed, and having his boyfriend so close is comforting.
The window beside the bed lets in little wisps of the night; cicada calls, moonlight, and the sight of a few stars peeking through the trees.
Everything is calm and at peace.
Until Geoff's phone goes off.
The brunet sits up, quickly answering and hoping to not wake Awsten up. The purple-haired boy is walking on the line of unconsciousness, and pays no mind to Geoff's phone call- he's slightly convinced it's something his half-asleep mind has produced.
"We thought we could handle it. Y'know- figure out a way to do this without putting you in danger. We didn't want to drag you away again, so we decided to go at it on our own. We were wrong, though- we couldn't figure it out. I'm sorry, Geoff. Kellin is on his way to pick you up."
Geoff's mind is reeling. He has to leave- again. Alex didn't even give him a greeting after he answered, let alone inform him on what the hell is happening.
