>>ASHLYN'S POV<<
"Wait!" I screamed out, jumping off of the creaky mattress. "Stop!"
Despite my high-pitched, loud screams, they didn't notice, my voice drowned out by the rumbling of the machine. I shrieked as I felt the ground shake, a loud crashing noise entering my ears as the wall opposite of me collapsed.
The chipped wood and pieces of debris managed to hit me, causing me to gasp in pain as I felt parts of my skin rip to create cuts I knew would take a while to heal.
At first, I attempted to make an easy escape through the hallway, coughing from the mass amounts of dust and dirt, where half of the house was torn away by the tornado, only to find it covered in a pile of debris.
I ducked as I felt a blow to the hallway wall beside me crash, collapsing immediately as more pieces of chipped wood hit me, making me shout out in agony. Suddenly, I heard the ceiling beginning to crack above me, the loud machine almost drowning it out.
Reacting immediately, I dashed to the opposite side of the small house into the bathroom, desperately clawing at the window that had been shut for longer than I was alive.
I pulled on it, the handle creaking, until finally it snapped. I blinked away the blood that was trickling down from my forehead into my eyes. I panicked, throwing the broken handle to the side, the loud noises and vibrations making me feel dizzy and lightheaded, paired with blood loss.
I stood up on the counter, kicking the thick but weak glass with my foot, the crashes getting closer and closer. With one last shove, I managed to kick through the window, pushing through the net before diving out head first, the wall behind me collapsing.
I coughed as I made it out into the open, rolling onto the ground, my eyes stinging from the blood. I tried to recover quickly dashing away while fixing my hat and hoodie, attemping to escape the loud noises that were giving me a massive headache.
My head was pounding as I made it into the woods, spluttering and gasping, immediately leaning over a boulder and vomiting. The small amount of food left my stomach, along with the contents that I accidentally inhaled during the destruction of my only shelter.
I leaned away, panting before letting my tiredness take over and collapsing in a heap on the uncomfortable ground.
When I woke, I immediately groaned, my throat straining from the effort and dryness. I sat up, my back cracking and my head spinning. I tried to stand, wobbling from dehydration and dizziness, grabbing onto a low branch beside me.
"Fucking hell," I groaned, holding my side where the blood from a nasty cut had leaked through the thin fabric of my sweatshirt. "Shit, I must look like a fucking zombie."
I pulled up my pant legs, only to find a large array of bruises and cuts scattered along them, a large amount of them stinging and pulsing from bacterial infection.
I trudged along the quiet woods and found a small puddle of water, and I immediately drank from it, despite the nasty taste. I watched the water still and I looked at my reflection, my left eye bruised and a shallow yet long cut along my cheek and one along my forehead.
I sat back down, pulling out small pieces of wood from my arms and hands, grimacing in disgust.
Where the fuck am I supposed to live now? I thought. Are Landon and his little followers still hanging around here?
I stood up, managing to cut through the woods until I reached the edge of the bad side of Lowell, peeking out to find the better side being welcomed only about 50 yards away.
"Let's do this," I muttered, stepping out onto the road.
I barely took two steps before I heard somebody behind me. "Hey! You!"
I spun around, only to find the three guys that were a part of the gang that I had managed to beat up to escape yesterday.
Fuck! I thought, immediately running the opposite direction. I am not in a good condition to face them right now!
My muscles and bones screamed in agony from the energy being spent on sprinting, my stomach only running on a small amount of dirty rain water and no food.
Just as I entered the brighter side of town, I saw the last people I wanted to see; Landon and his friends.
Before they could catch my eye, I ran to my left, still hearing the calls of the guys behind me. I dove behind a fence that blocked off two buildings and held my breath, waiting for them to leave.
I heard them walk past in confusion, muttering swear words and small threats as they passed. As I heard them leave, I peeped through a small hole to see Landon entering his truck, driving away in the opposite direction.
"Shit, what the fuck do I do now?!" I whispered to myself before carefully climbing over the old fence.
I stood my ground for a little bit, unsure of what to do.
Damn it, Adam! Why do you have to be in Europe when I need a place to stay?! I thought, clenching my jaw.
I was only left with one option to go with.
When I entered the building with a horrible limp, covering the damaged side of my face with my arm, pretending to fix my hat.
I nodded at the lady, and she recognized me, immediately nodding back in fear, her eyes wide.
I pushed the button on the elevator, riding it up until the top floor, wincing as I switched my weight onto my other leg.
I walked up to his door slowly, pacing slightly, my legs about to collapse, trying to bring myself to raise my fist and knock.
"Oh, fuck it," I thought, forcing myself to pound my hand against the door. Immediately I blew out a gust of air, the effects of no food and injury beginning to take its toll on me. I hunched over, groaning while grabbing the door frame with my right hand.
There was some shuffling inside until finally the door swung open, creaking.
He looked shocked to say the least to see me again, along with the condition I was in.
"Hey there, Jordan."
so this was kinda a shitty chapter ahahah whoops
