ASHYLN'S POV

I shook my head slightly, inhaling quickly before narrowing my eyes. "You want to play games, Landon? I can play real dirty. You know that by now," I hissed, clenching my fists and stepping forward.

His grip only seemed to tighten around Jordan's neck as I did so, and I slowly backtracked, my eyes trained on him.

"I'm not playing any damn games, Ash," he growled, his breaths short as sweat rolled down his forehead. "You really couldn't tell?" he growled through clenched teeth.

I swallowed, unsure of what to say. What is he getting at? I thought.

He chuckled, unamused. "You really couldn't. You didn't notice me whenever I noticed you, you were too fucking attached to Jon," he huffed, his hands shaking. "Three years of torture, of not having you, and this is what I fucking get?"

Well, shit.

"God, I sound like a little bitch, don't I?" he continued, swallowing as I flickered my gaze to Jordan. His expression was shocked as well; he was still grabbing Landon's arms.

"Then why the hell are you coming after me?" I asked, slowly inching forward so he wouldn't notice.

"I couldn't have you by will," he said, "so I'll have you by force." He paused for a few moments. "I'm going to have to make you come with me, won't I?"

No way in hell, asshole.

"I'm not going anywhere with you," I hissed, my tone laced with venom and disgust.

He narrowed his eyes threateningly, cocking his head slightly. "I guess I'll have to convince you then," he replied slowly, his expression turning sinister.

"And I guess step one would be to kill lover boy, here, wouldn't it?"

My eyes widened and I gasped. His grip tightened and he stepped backwards, readjusting his gun and pointing it inwards towards Jordan's stomach.

"Should we let him suffer a little bit?" he hissed. "A shot to the head won't do him justice; maybe we'll start with the stomach, or perhaps the leg--"

"Stop!" I screamed, finally regaining my senses. "Stop! I'll go with you!" I rushed out.

He smirked as he finally dropped Jordan onto the floor. When he landed with a thud, he gasped and breathed heavily, stumbling up and scrambling towards me.

I rushed towards him, helping him up, tears pricking my eyes. Damn it, Jordan. I thought.

"Ash, Ash, no, I can't, I can't just--" he began whispering but I cut him off.

"Shut up, Jordan," I interjected, grabbing his forearms. "Get out of here, right now. I swear to God if you call the police I will throw you out a damn window, okay?" I can't have either of us in more danger.

He shook his head before I forcefully shoved him towards the exit, my eyebrows scrunched up and my eyesight blurry. I quickly wiped them wih my forearm before shoving him again. "Leave!"

He looked at me, his eyes shaking slightly, his arms outstretched ever so slightly.

I leaned forward, attaching my lips to his, my lips moving with desperation and longing. I felt myself being ripped off him by Landon, my feet dragging across the carpeted floor, successfully peeling my socks off.

I felt my bare feet burn from the carpet, Landon's sharp scruff biting the top of my head, his arms forcefully wrapped around my waist.

How romantic. I thought bitterly.

"Let's go," he roughly growled, grabbing my forearm and harshly pulling me towards the stair exit.

I looked back at Jordan, my other arm slightly extended, and watched his gaze follow me until the door marking the staircase shut in my face.

Maybe this is for the best.

As we arrived to the stained and rusty pickup truck, he slammed me against the side of it, my feet burning from the hot pavement. His hands rested at my waist, his face leaning down to the crook of my neck.

"Finally," he breathed, almost sounding vulnerable.

I struggled in his grip, my head shaking left to right and my arms pushing against his buff torso. "Let me go, you filthy asshole!" I hissed.

His hand lashed out and slapped me against my right cheek, my head turning sharply to the left. "Oh my god," I said out loud, unsure of what to do. It took me a while to process the loud gunshot-like sound his palm inflicted on my cheek.

He grabbed my face with his hand, the rough calluses on his fingers digging into my cheeks. "Don't ever fucking talk to me like that again," he said with clenched teeth, before letting go with enough force to jerk my head to the left again.

He turned to walk around to the other side of the truck. I stood there, my mouth slightly open from shock and my hair covering my face. Although Landon had been targeting me for countless months, he had never come close enough to hurt me. No one ever had.

My ears rang from the sudden car honk that cut through the air. I jumped, hearing Landon's gritty voice yell, "Get in the fucking car!"

I took one more look at the building where Jordan was before breathing in and walking to the passenger door.

ive been stuck with this book for way too fucking long. god damn. well bright side is my guitar teacher gave me a bomb ass tour of berklee college of music today and it was pretty rad. i have a five page essay due monday though and i haven't started it. fuck.
