Everyone has heard of angels.
They are these powerful and holy white-winged beings, spreading love and kindness everywhere they go. Whether you believe in them or not, they exist. From whispering guidance into the ears of powerful leaders to planting a five dollar bill on the ground to make someone's day, there are angels all around you, even if you don't realize it. Another thing that people don't realize is that with being a divine immortal creature comes a lot of homework. Especially for Third-Sphere angels like myself.
Third-Sphere angels are the part-time college students of the angel realm, working as often as they can and studying whenever we have the time in hopes of eventually moving up the angelic hierarchy.
Right now I am title-less, just your average base level angel. But I have hopes of becoming a Guardian soon; I've been an angel for almost a whole year now and it's expected that by this time frame, I am to move up the ranks soon.
Actually, you could argue that I am well on my way to becoming a Guardian Angel. I'm currently serving as a temporary Guardian to a human girl named Jane whose old Guardian recently leveled up to Archangel. I jumped at the opportunity to fill in the empty space, even if it was only temporary. My placement test wasn't for a while so I couldn't become her permanent Guardian, but volunteering to fill in until she got assigned another one seemed like good practice.
However, having to follow around a spritely teenager everywhere she went was proving to be quite exhausting. Angels might be immortal but we are still quite fond of things like sleep and silence, both of which had just been robbed from me, as a large thud woke me up from my slumber.
I opened my eyes in confusion, blinking away what little amount of sleep I had gotten. It took me a few seconds to recognize where I was; I had fallen asleep in Jane's room. Sleeping at your assigned person's house was not by any means required, but Jane had worn me out the day before so I didn't bother going home. It seemed pointless when I was just going to come back to her the next day.
A sudden stirring beside me pulled me away from my thoughts.
Jane sat up from her bed, frowning and looking around grumpily for the source of the offensive noise.
The sound of something slamming into glass caused both Jane and I to turn our heads towards her window. It was pitch black outside, but still, I could make out the silhouette of some substance stuck against the glass.
"What the hell?" Jane said, pulling her covers off herself.
"Watch your language." I told her, cringing at her choice of profanity.
Jane flipped the light to her room on before marching towards her window.
"What– Is that an egg? Did someone just egg me?!" She scoffed sounding genuinely appalled.
As if to answer her rhetorical question, another egg was chugged at the window suddenly, causing Jane to screech in surprise. A muffled laugh came from outside. Huffing, Jane pressed her face against the glass, looking down for the perpetrator.
"Jake! You asshole!" Jane shouted suddenly, thus revealing the identity of the egg thrower. I rolled my eyes.
I was all too familiar with Jake Alvarez. I had only been with Jane for the past week but I had already encountered Jake multiple times. He was Jane's classmate and was constantly messing with her at school. Jane always seemed to put up with his teasing and rude comments, for some God forsaken reason that was beyond me.
Jane suddenly pulled away from the window, leaning down to grab her favorite pair of shoes before rushing out her bedroom door.
You've got to be kidding me.
