I woke up with a yawn, stretching my arms out as far as they could go.
I had been Jane's Guardian for a whole month now and yesterday marked my last day. Honestly, I was so unbelievably happy to finally be done. Jane was a great girl but, goodness, did she always end up in all sorts of trouble. Besides, today was a special day and I was thankful that I didn't have to spend it following Jane's every move. It had also been a while since I've gotten to sleep in my own bed.
However, as I lay on my own bed, I began to realize that maybe becoming a Guardian Angel wasn't what I wanted to do. I had been so sure before. It wasn't that Jane had scared me off from the idea; on the contrary I was actually quite fond of her.
Sure, she was rebellious and outspoken, but she was kind and good at heart. There was nothing to say for sure that my future person would be like that as well. The idea that I would become responsible for one person's life for all their life, if I didn't choose to move up the ranks again, was quite a jarring one.
"Y/N! I know you're awake now, so come downstairs!" A voice called out, causing me to jump. My eyes widened as I realized the voice that had beckoned me had belonged to Eliza.
Oh no, what did I do?
Jumping out of bed, I quickly rummaged around my room for any presentable clothing I could throw on.
Eliza was one of the Principalities. The Principalities made up the very top tier of the Third Sphere; they were the overseers of all Third Sphere angels. They're constantly watching everyone, making sure everyone is acting accordingly and doing their job. In person visits from Principalities were usually kept to a minimum, they opted instead to have messenger angels deliver any message that they needed to be shared. Eliza was the Principality in charge of my household, along with a number of others. She was also downstairs, notoriously impatient and waiting for me.
"I'm coming!" I called out, hurriedly making my way down our creaky wooden stairs. I reached the bottom of the stairs to find Eliza was standing inside our house by the front door, hands clasped neatly together in front of her.
"Good, you're here. Finally." Eliza quipped, moving towards our dining table before I could greet her back. I quickly followed her movements, sitting myself across from her.
Eliza's hair was a dark brown, her curls were tightly strung as if to forbid her hair from passing her shoulders. The suit she adorned today was a dark grey and it was ironed to perfection, not a single wrinkle in sight. I swallowed nervously.
"Y/N, please pay attention to what I'm about to say because I'm only going to repeat it once. I'm a very busy woman and I have much to do today." She warned. I nodded in understanding.
"It has come to my attention that towards the beginning of this past month that you spent watching over Jane Wilson, there was an incident." She stated matter-of-factly.
I froze in my seat. She knew about Taehyung.
I hadn't told anyone about my brief run in with a demon. Not my roommates, not anyone. I was hoping I could leave him and that memory behind but I should've known that something as dramatic as a fight with a demon would've popped up on the Principalities' radar.
"We investigated further into the incident. It appears that sometime during the night, you followed the young Jane outside of her home and you encountered a demon. Is this correct?" Although it was a question, the look on her face told me that it didn't matter what I said, she already knew the answer.
"Yes, that is correct." I muttered quietly. I intertwined my hands, letting them rest on my lap.
I felt like a child waiting for an upcoming scolding.
