2 AM
"Psst... Bailee are you still awake?"
I feel a piece of the popcorn we were eating earlier from movie night hit my face.
"Well, I am now Josh" I sigh and sit up on the bed reluctantly, leaning against the headboard "What's up?"
He begins to sit up in the bed as well and turn on his little bed side lamp to illuminate our faces, being able to see each other in the dark room.
"I couldn't sleep"
"Do you want to talk about something?" I say, subtly hinting at what happened earlier.
"Yeah actually. I was just thinking about how we always have Friday Fun Day and how we've been friends since sophomore year and how we tell each other everything and-"
"Josh, you're rambling" I chuckle lightly
"Oh sorry." He says with a laugh "Well, I was just wondering why we always go to my house and never yours? Come to think of it, I've never even seen your house. Actually, I've never even met your mom Bailee."
I'm surprised. Josh has asked to come to my house before, but I've always made excuses for him not to come over. These questions are completely unexpected, and I don't think I'm ready to answer them.
"Josh, this is a really heavy conversation to have at two in the morning don't you think?" I say cautiously
He runs his hand through his hair and responds "Yeah I guess you're right. I just couldn't sleep and that's what came to mind for some reason. Can we talk about it in the morning?"
"Um...I guess if you really want to know, we can."
"Alright awesome. I'm gonna try to get some sleep now. Goodnight"
With a smile Josh turns off the bed side lamp and lays down. I do the same, dreading the conversation that would inevitably come when the sun rises in a couple of hours.
I didn't get to sleep until about two hours later with all the thought running through my head. Thanks Josh.
10 AM
"Good morning sleepy head."
I groan as the sunlight pours into the room from the curtains and I hear Josh directly in front of me.
"No. Sleep." I say as I try to bring the covers over my head, effectively blocking out the sun from my tired eyes.
"Bailee its already 10:00. I'm wide awake and I need my partner in crime to help me make breakfast."
Even in my tired state I could hear the cheesy smile in his voice.
"Ughhhhh...fine."
Reluctantly I get up and as expected Josh has that cheesy smile which just annoys me this early in the morning.
"Why are you so damn happy? I went to sleep at lie 4 am thanks to you. How are you awake so early?"
"B, first of all its not even that early and second of all I'm just excited to finally see your house today."
Wait what?!
"What?"
Is that really what he got from that conversation last night? I don't remember anything remotely close to that. I think he's going insane.
"Yeah, you said we would talk about why we never go to your house, so I just assumed that also included me finally getting to see it. And hopefully meet your mom as well."
"That's a giant stretch from me saying we'll talk about it..." I say confused
Josh looks at me with a regretful look.
"Oh, sorry. I was just excited to finally see where you come from. I probably shouldn't have assumed if you obviously didn't want to talk about it."
I sigh "Josh its fine. I guess we have a lot to talk about if you want to know that bad. First let's make that breakfast because I'm starving."
On cue my stomach rumbles loudly cause me to chuckle lightly and josh to smile.
"Okay, I'll make the eggs and you make the bacon?"
"Obviously, you'll burn the bacon." I say jokingly
With that we leave to go into the kitchen and make some breakfast. A minor distraction from what's to come next. I'm probably over reacting, but in my experience nothing good comes from telling people I'm rich.
