I woke up to the sound of the front door shutting. I rolled iver and checked the time, 11:40, I fell asleep early, I thought to myself as I let my hair out of my bun which was now curly. I put my contacts into my ocean blue eyes and changed out of my night gown and put on grey sweatpants and a sports bra. I looked out the window in the front and found Jesse lying on a blanket looking at the stars. I smiled and ran back to my room and grabbed my blouse I was wearing earlier.
He must have heard me coming because as soon as I stepped outside, he turned and saw me. I walked over to him crossing my arms because of the cold. When I got close enough I whispered,
"Hey."
"Hi" he responded and I lay down next to him.
We used to do this all the time, it was our thing. There were so many stars the thought of other stars like our sun made me smile. I felt him look over a me,
"What are you smiling about?" he sounded amused.
"The fact that our world may not be so special." I looked at him and he gave me a look telling me to continue.
I sighed,
"There are so many stars, millions of billions of stars that are just like our sun. And possibly, because there are all those suns, there are millions of billions of planets just like earth," I took a breath and looked back at the stars,
"or maybe having a sun or water isn't even necessary for life. For us, maybe, but that's only because we've adapted to the environment. We have been looking for planets that have the requirements for us to live on, but maybe other organisms that live out there, don't need what we need and are more, evolved. We think we are special because we may be the only ones out there, but that's just sad and what would be the point?"
I looked back at Jesse and he was staring at me dumbfounded.
I smiled,
"So I'm smiling at the fact that people can be so naive and close minded to think we're alone."
"You're something else Stace." he said looking back at the stars.
I bit my lip.
"I can't tell if that's a good or a bad thing."
Jesse closed his eyes and smiled,
"It's a good thing."

We stayed outside in silence for a while, but then I heard noises so I ran inside leaving him alone.
I was now in bed, trying to find ways to fall asleep, the movie last night still kept creeping its way into my mind. I gave up trying and went into Jesse's room. He was asleep. I sighed and walked in and lay down on the floor beside his bed and closed my eyes.
"What are you doing?"
I jumped and practically had a hard attack.
"I um... couldn't sleep..." I said lamely.
"Why are you on the floor?" he asked, confused.
"I told you... I couldn't sleep..."
"Come into the bed then." the way he said it so casually made me remember the past.
"Um..." I didn't really know how to answer that question.
"You don't have to, I'm just saying you don't have to stay on the ground." he explained running his hands through his hair.
I stood up,
"Yeah, I get it, I'll be right back."I rushed out of the room and ran into my room grabbing my alarm clock since we had to wake early tomorrow and took two pillows. I looked in the mirror and ran my fingers through my hair a couple of times and removed my cardigan.
When I came back into the room, I caught Jesse fixing his blanket. I walked over, put the alarm on the table next to me, put one pillow where my head would be and one in the center of the bed.
"What are you doing?" he pointed to the pillow.
"It's a barrier, no crossing it." I simply said and lay down.
"That's dumb."
"Goodnight Jesse." I said turning to face the wall. But neither of us went to sleep. We both stayed awake looking into plain space.
It felt like it had been a half an hour before Jesse groaned and turned toward me, took the barrier and threw it off the bed.
I turned to look at him,
"Why'd you do that?!" I complained. Jesse looked at me, sighed and grabbed my waist pulling me against him. At first, I stayed still, but soon I snuggled deeper into his embrace and finally fell asleep.
