"It was so good to see you again." She smiled happily into his eyes, showing some small teeth.
"It really was. Nothing compared to only writing.", he agreed. A warm breeze swooshed through between them and it smelled like night flowers. She took a look around her and up to dark sky full of tiny stars. She smiled again, feeling very comfortable.
"Well then ...", he broke the silence.
"Yeah", she looked back at him. "I should go now. It is already late."
"Yeah", he agreed again. "But hey, do you have time this weekend? I know a place you probably like."
"Yes, that sounds cool! With some hiking?"
"Definitely with some hiking.", he laughed. She looked so beautiful today. Her eyes seem to sparkle even in the dark, she looked genuinely happy. She lowered her head a little and stroke some of her hair out of her face. She lifted her eyes and it was as if two stars had hit him. All of a sudden, she seemed to be a whole other person, although she was exactly the same. It seemed as if she was shining in a different light, surrounded by different air, as if she couldn't be real. As if she wasn't really here, standing right in front of him.
She looked up into the friendly face of her friend. And she felt so comfortable being here with him. She started to lean forward for a good bye hug, but suddenly stopped when she started to feel something she did not expect. Her skin was somehow tingling and she felt her heart taking up speed. Blood pumped strongly through her veins, it felt as if her arms and her whole body were shaking in the same fast rhythm. Their gazes locked and she had a pulling sensation somewhere in her stomach.
Both of them were still for a moment that felt like eternity. He couldn't consciously figure out what this sensation was, what kind of change he saw in her eyes. Then she slowly straightened up, as she was still bent forward a little. It wasn't much, but the distance between their face shrunk teeny tiny inches. And as she came upwards, he bent his head downwards, unconsciously following his heart's desire. She felt him coming closer, she felt the tension in the air, she felt her breath rushing shakily in and out between her slightly parted lips.
They kissed. Their lips merely touched, so soft and insecure, and still, feelings exploded. He had thought about this moment so often, imagining how it would feel, what could go wrong and how good it would feel. How he never felt brave enough and told himself, it was never going to happen because she didn't feel the same way.
Her heart had stopped. She had not seen this coming, five minutes ago she had felt like always around him and now everything went crazy. He pulled back a few inches. What was he doing? She still felt his touch on his lips. Slowly she opened her eyes and looked directly in his wary, confused and overwhelmed ones. They were still so close to each other. The atmosphere hadn't change. She wanted him. She did want him. And she never knew until just now.
Before he could back away completely, she raised her hand, put it behind his head and pulled him back, kissing him with more urgency that before. And he kissed her back, relieved, hopeful, and letting all his accumulated feelings over the years pour out of him and into this kiss.
