"What exactly is your plan?"
I looked up at Jules after biting into my apple. We sat at one of the empty tables far enough from the group to not be noticed by them but close enough so we can observe their table. We were actually pretty far away from others, in their view but not in hearing range.

I pointed at him happy that he brought it up. I was honestly going to forget to run over our backstory again. We had a simple conversation about it beforehand but didn't give it much thought.
"I've been meaning to talk to you about that, how does a foreign exchange student sound?"

"Or we could always just go with some of the rumours that are already circling around us" he proposed. It only looked like he was half joking.

"What are the rumours like?" I was interested in what they thought of us. After all, we haven't actually talked to anyone here yet. So any rumour would be coming solely off of the impression we gave.

He smirked eyeing me "Don't get too excited, their pretty normal things. Like are we related? or are we going out with each other? Did we happen to run away from some crazy's and are now vengeful and spiteful teenagers hiding out at-"

"What the hell!, they so did not say that" I exclaimed as I threw one of my fruit cups at him.

He laughed as he easily caught it in his hand before it could reach his forehead. All of a sudden he grew quiet, his laughter diminishing.

He paused as he fiddled with his straw from his glass of water. Seeming to be in deep thought before he spoke. "You and I both know that the rumours aren't what you're actually interested in."

I gave him a look "what's that supposed to mean"
"Just that-" he sighed running his fingers through his hair. "-After everything that happened, you're interested in what people see you as, whether they can see through your persona and figure you out. Or to see if you have others fooled, that you're a nice ordinary girl moving states who just happens to be rich going to a rich school"

My face turned sour before I could control it. Did he really mean that?

"I can be nice" I whispered. I was so quiet I wasn't sure he heard me until I saw his eyes soften.

Offering a tight-lipped smile he reached for my hand across the table "No, you can't" Ouch, that stung a little.

He rushed to speak after seeing my expression. "But it's not your fault. None of us know how to be nice, decent human beings"

I chocked on a sigh. This was not the kind of conversation I wanted to have in a cafeteria. Was I really that cold-hearted? I thought back to all the times I set others up to pay a price they didn't have the means for. It gave me satisfaction, some stability at being able to mess with others. I furrowed my brows. But wasn't that what everyone did? Everyone lies and deceives others. So why was it any different when I did it?, why should I play nice when others won't?

I shrugged out of his grip on my hand "Whatever, let's just go with two orphan kids who moved state because-"

I looked up into his eyes. I immediately regretted it wanting to look away. He seemed sorry and guilty? Sadness ran through his blue orbs. What did he have to be sorry for?

I cleared my throat "-because their parents died in a car accident, Jaxson can be our cousin and legal guardian after all he just turned eighteen"

"So we're siblings?"
"I guess so, I mean we practically are since we grew up together and it would be a decent explanation to others on why we're always together and so close"
He nodded in understanding "What do you have next?" I watched him confused "Classes, what class do you have next?"
