"... So, if you won't be here on Monday, please see me after class so we can discuss when you can-"

The teacher's voice was cut off by the loud bell at 11:30 sharp.

Kids began to rush out of the classroom, pushing and shoving their way through. Among the first to exit the door was (Y/n), glad that she could get away from the annoying boy who sat beside her. She grinned while racing down the hall, ignoring teacher's complaints, and eventually arrived at the gym. It was full of fellow pupils wearing the same monochrome uniforms, all waiting for their bus to arrive. (Y/n) found a free spot on the front row of the bleachers and sat down. She began to take her phone out of her bag, but she was interrupted.

"Hey. I got us some snacks." Allie said from beside her.

Her hair was just as messy as it was this morning and her uniform looked like it was thrown on in a hurry. The light remnants of eyeshadow were smeared over her eyelids.

"Did drama let out late again?" (Y/n) asked.

"Yup. On the day we had dress rehearsal too."

  "Ouch." (Y/n) cringed.

"The new teacher has no idea what they're doing. Anyways..."

She held up two bags of chips from some cheap local company. They were all the school stocked their vending machines with, but they'd suffice.

"Thanks Sis." "You're welcome."

The pair of sisters ate the potato chips together, ignoring the sounds of a sore loser yelling about losing in a certain popular game. Eventually, their bus was called and they went outside to board it. They sat in the same seat as usual, (Y/n) getting the window side. She spent the small amount of time completing some homework from that one teacher that has to ruin every special day. Those teachers, she swore, came from hell.

The two arrived home about fifteen minutes later, getting inside their house just a few seconds before a downpour began. They were home alone again. Their Mother had an afternoon shift, and their Father was working overtime. Both girls smiled in content. They didn't have to deal with the two of them begging to know every little detail about the school day or assignments.

Allie said nothing as she opened the door to their father's office. She put her finger over her lips and shhhed before entering, as (Y/n)'s cue to never tell anybody. Nobody was supposed to enter the office without permission. There wasn't a reason though, because the only things there were papers and other documents. Allie always seemed to find something different every time she went in there, though. Last time, she found a stack of old photo albums from the previous generation of their family.

After watching Allie sneak into the room nobody dared to enter, she began climbing the stairs. She was ready to finish that cover- thinking about it all day left her itching to touch that keyboard again. It was the only thing occupying her mind. She was practically obsessed with the thought of it.

Smiling to herself, (Y/n) opened the door to her room...

... and was met with the bright glow of her computer screen.

Confusion spread over (Y/n)'s face. She recalled putting the monitor to sleep after Allie got annoyed. There was no way it could be woken up without cursor movement. Not to mention that you also had to input a password.

"Did someone look through my computer...? No no, it's impossible..." (Y/n) mumbled to herself, remembering the password she had set. She observed the desk and the area around it, but it was the exact same as it was this morning.

Then she looked at the screen, where the Vocaloid editor was still loaded.

  What was this?

"This isn't the vsqx I was editing last night..."

It was short, barely a minute long. The tuning looked very well done and was completed, a feat that'd take her weeks. And, the lyrics didn't look like they came from a song at all; they were similar to a person speaking. Nothing rhymed, there was no vibrato, and significant changes in notes were missing. Now slightly creeped out, (Y/n) slowly moved her cursor to the play button.

"Hello! I hope that you're having a good day. I just wanted to thank you for taking good care of me and that I hope to talk to you soon. I can live life this way as long as you're here!" A small giggle played at the end.

"Woah, that's the most realistic tuning I've ever heard in Fukase's voice!" Forget being confused, (Y/n) was amazed- and flattered, assuming those words were said for her to hear. But, specifically, how was she supposed to respond to this person? How did they get access to her copy of the Vocaloid editor? And most importantly, how is she treating them with care?

She sat down in her chair, thinking about the ways she could respond. She could use the Vocaloid editor, but that'd take a bit of work to make it sound like another person talking. She was only used to making vocals for singing. Then again, it might be the easiest way to respond. Maybe she could use some basic text editor, or maybe this person could hear her voice through her microphone?

(Y/n) decided to test the microphone theory first. She dug into her backpack and unplugged the headphones she used to listen to music with from her phone. It had a small microphone on the left side wire that could work. Next, she plugged them into her computer and opened Audacity. She didn't hesitate before clicking the record button.

"Hello?... Is this working? Can you hear me?"

She held her breath, frequently checking the editor to see if there was a response. A minute and a half later, the notes on her screen were deleted and replaced with a new set of the familiar green bars. (Y/n) clicked the play button at the speed of light.

"You replied! And yes, I can hear you. Do you need anything?" Fukase's voice said, happily.

A smile formed across her face as she calmed down. "They seem to genuinely care about me. I think they're ok to talk to for now." she thought.

She clicked the record button again, and this time kept it on in the background.

"I''m confused. Who are you, and how are you able to talk to me through the synthesizer?"

A smile was spread wide across his face. When he had heard the voice for the first time, he was so excited that he stopped everything he had been doing and returned to the glowing screen floating in the center of the area.

She had decided to reply to him and keep him company! He wasn't lonely anymore in his small dimension, hidden away in the programming. He was proud of himself for succeeding in his plan.

"I''m confused. Who are you, and how are you able to talk to me through the synthesizer?" Her voice echoed in the void and his mind.

Still, with the smile on his face, the boy stood up. His shoes' short heels tapped against the ground and his coat fell down around his body. The skirt underneath it swayed to the side. He picked up a hat and set it atop his red hair, and moved his fringe to uncover the left side of his face. He entered new notes on the screen, perfectly matching them with is own voice as he spoke aloud in a powerful, loud voice.

"My name is Fukase, and I have been singing for you this entire time!"
