*A week later*
I would be lying if I said I wasn't concerned because I am. It's been a week already and Liam comes back to his flat, frustrated or horny. Sometimes both. But it's starting to weird me out. His entire demeanor has changed. He snaps for small things and rarely speaks to me in uni, he used to do that a lot. Sometimes he comes back, extremely loving and sweet, but he changes. I don't even understand what's going on anymore. He comes from uni and then directly goes to work. I mean, so do I, but I'm in a better mood than he is. I just want my boyfriend back.
I groan and tap my pencil against the counter. Four more hours until closing time. No customers and Tania is in the back room, on her phone. I sigh and look around the bakery. The pink on the walls is truly sickening. It's so dirty it almost looks purple. I shake my head and grab a wet cloth. I go up to the now purple walls and scrub them hard. Oh gosh, the dirt has really penetrated this paint job. Oh well. I walk back and throw away the cloth. An idea pops in my mind. I grin and quietly tip toe to the back room to see what Tania is doing. She's still on her phone. I grin wider and quietly go back to the front and grab some supplies. I'll just do them here, we don't even get any customers. I grab flour, baking soda, and the rest of the ingredients. I grab bowls and whisks and measuring spoons and cups. I hum to the song Liam sang to me a week ago or so. I mix the ingredients together and add two drops of pink food colouring. I smile and grab baking cups and a pan. I drop an amount of batter into each baking cup. I grin. Liam is going to love this after a hard day of work. I preheat the oven and then put the pan inside. I begin to make the frosting. Spoiler, here, we use canned frosting for decorated cookies. It's absolutely scary. Anyway, after making my cream cheese frosting, I take out my cupcakes and let them cool. I can't find any piping bags. Boo. I grab a butter knife and smear the frosting onto the cupcake.
At one point I hear the little bell above the door - ring. I panic once I see it's the owner and manager of the bakery. I let out a tiny squeak and quickly grab all the utensils and ingredients and run to the back room. Tania lays on the floor - for a second I think she's dead - but her eyes snap open and she's about to start yelling but I shush her quickly.
"Tania, get the fuck up! The manager is here!" I whisper shout. She widens her eyes.
"Ay no!" She struggles to get up and grabs the whisk I was holding and a bowl. She then starts laughing and smiling. What the hell. I see the manager walking in. I plaster a smile on my face and clutch the bag of flour.
"What's so funny ladies?" Sarah, the owner and manager of this fine establishment - asks.
"Josie told me the most funniest joke!" Tania's eye twitches. I start laughing because the way she's acting is way too funny. Sarah nods and smiles small.
"Ladies, well, we need to talk." She says. Ok this is not good at all. Maybe she has cameras hid here somewhere and saw me using her things for personal use and Tania on the floor doing absolutely nothing like always. The manager is never here, unless she has to collect the money and give us our paycheck. Tania senses it too because she nods quickly and walks with the manager. I follow behind them, still clutching the bag of flour to my chest. My heart is racing and I'm very nervous. I'm scared man. I might get fired for baking cupcakes for my boyfriend. Sarah sighs and locks up the door and switches the "OPEN" sign to "CLOSED". Ok, now I'm fearing for my life.
"Please sit." She instructs Tania and I. Reluctantly, we both pull out a plastic chair and sit on it.
"As you both know, business isn't doing well. We rarely get any customers in and profits are down low. Between the costs for owning this place, paying for the items we need, bills, and giving you two your paycheck... I can't afford if anymore. It's too much. I thought that opening this place would be a breeze and we would be very successful and I've really been trying to keep this place afloat but it's getting to a point where I'm in debt and I can't afford to keep this place anymore. I'm sorry ladies."
