3 years in prison but today, I breathe the air of a free man or shall I say woman and I have to say that it was tough. I'm pretty sure my arrest should have been longer but at this point, I don't even really care anymore. I can see my two sisters on the other side of the road, or at least I think it's them, I wasn't arrested in my glasses so I can't see clearly. I cross the road and I can tell it's them now. From their brunette hair, their blue eyes and freckles to their shapely bodies. They got all the good features from both parents.
I got my red hair from my mum and bad eyesight from my dad. I'm not that skinny but compared to my sisters I'm all bones. Don't even get me started on my eyes. Apparently, they couldn't decide what colour they wanted to be so they just chose both. Yep... one's blue the other green. It made me the center of all bullying back in high school.
Victoria, my youngest sister gives me my huge blue glasses. I can see Katrina, my eldest sister, shooting me her stink eye that I return with a smile.
"Katrina, Victoria, how lovely for you to come to pick me," I said in a slightly high pitched tone.
"It wasn't by choice dearest Amanda. Mum and dad want to see you." Victoria said in that annoying British accent- she went to a British boarding school and the accent stuck- already walking towards the posh car.
"No," I said firmly.
"What do you mean no?" She asked.
" I mean no Katrina. I've been locked up for three years. They could have easily picked a day to come see me but they didn't, so I'm not gonna see them whenever they feel like calling." I said losing my composure.
"You'll still show up." She said "Victoria let's leave. The air smells of drug dealers."
I watched as the car drove off and I ran a quick search through my contacts. There was no one I wanted to see. Especially him. The cause of all my problems and the man I still love no matter what but can't allow myself to be with.
I call an Uber and get to my apartment. I pay him with some dollars I always stash underneath my phone cover for emergencies. I step into the lobby of the apartment I bought before I got arrested. Everyone stares. They had all been there. Some point, some smile, and some even wave but I can tell it's faked.
In my apartment, there are only two letters on the ground, all my bills go to my mum and dad, they pay for all our bills and they've given us all black Express cards. One letter is written my name at the back. I touch the handwriting because I know it's his, then I throw it in the dustbin. The other one caught me by the surprise... It's from my boss telling me to report to work on Monday... tomorrow.
After a shower and changing into comfortable sweatpants I look for something unexpired and there's nothing. So I go to the grocery store and get myself a lifetime supply of Doritos and Lays. I was loading them in the trunk when I hear his voice and my heart stopped for a second and I thought I was going to die of a heart attack.
"Amy." His voice was as soft and musical as I can remember it. I took in a deep breathe and closed the trunk then I met his caramel eyes.
"Scott."
"You're back." He said.
"I'm back," I said.
His beautiful face breaks into a grin.
"See you at work detective." He said and began walking away.
Then I snapped.
"Bring your ass back here Scott," I said loud enough for him to stop.
"You don't get to come to me, grinning like a Cheshire cat and you didn't apologize for arresting me. Arresting me for something you introduced me to."
