Mechanical isolation

I baked a cake for a thoughtless lot,

who never pitched, yet ate all they got.

I decorated it with a happy song,

and within seconds the cake was gone,

eaten whole by my non-present family

who chewed and chewed mechanically.

They never looked up and wasnt aware

of the blank expression of their stare,

as they fixed on the screens in front of them,

their fingers racing to a lonely rhythm.

I had so much to tell and share today,

but the cake was gone, and so were they.
