Eleven sat on the brick wall outside of school next to her boyfriend Mike. They chatted about homework, and what they'd done over the weekend, but El didn't enjoy talking to him as much as she used to. Mike grabbed her hand and held it in his, but her hand still felt cold and she didn't get the usual tingling feeling in her stomach that she did before. She felt uncomfortable, like she'd rather be anywhere else. Her eyes scanned the parking lot for the rest of the party, but most importantly, she looked out for Max. Lucas, Dustin and Will pulled up on their bikes, and Mike hopped down from the wall to say hi. Eleven still looked out wistfully, until she heard the familiar squeal of Max's brother's tyres across the parking lot, as the blue car skidded to a halt next to the curb. El's heart jumped as she saw the red hair of Max Mayfield shining in the sunlight as she climbed out of the car. She slammed the door shut and skateboarded towards them while her brother flew off way too fast in his car.
Eleven shyly waved at Max, who smiled back. El hopped off the wall to greet her. The familiar feeling of butterflies filled her chest as the gorgeous red head jumped off her skateboard.
The bell rang loudly, breaking El from her stare and bringing her back to reality. They headed off to their first class.
*time jump to lunch bc i'm lazy*
Max flung her bag on the floor and sat down at their lunch table. The only people sitting there were Will and Mike, the rest obviously getting food. An awkward silence filled the table, and Max sat chewing on the loose skin around her finger. She noticed will watching Mike as he sat slumped with his head in his hands and smiled.
Dustin, Lucas and El all walked over to the table, holding their trays of food. El sat down between Max and Mike, subtly trying to move closer to Max. She felt awkward as Mike put his arm around her, and Max noticed as Eleven squirmed around in her seat. Max sighed and took a bite of the apple in her hand, trying to ignore the butterflies in her stomach as she stared at the girls chocolate brown eyes.
"So, sleepover at Mike's tomorrow, the first day of summer, remember?" Lucas said. Max looked down at the table, unsure if she was invited or not.
"You are coming, aren't you Max?" Eleven asked hopefully. Max smiled, secretly ecstatic that Eleven had actually thought to ask.
"I mean, if you want me there." She said, looking doubtfully at Mike.
"Sure I guess." Mike said. Max smiled.
"Who's bringing the snacks?" Dustin asked. They all chuckled, Dustin is always thinking about food.
"I brought them last time." Lucas said. And the usual chatter carried on like normal. Eleven couldn't help but stare at Max for the rest of lunch.
