the sun shone brightly through el's window, and the two girls decided to walk down to the park. max carried her skateboard underneath her arm as they trekked through the forest hoppers cabin was in the middle of. they found the small playpark and the small skatepark next to it. when the mall was opened, another huge play area and skate park was opened near it, so the small park that max normally cane to remained empty for most of the day.

they sat down on the swings. el loved the swings. having been deprived of fun for the majority of her life, el found happiness in the smallest of things. max loved the way her eyes lit up as she looked up at a blue sky or skimmed stones across a lake, or rode a bike down the street with the wind in her hair. el swung her legs back and forth, gaining more momentum and going higher up on the swing.

"i bet you can't go as high as me, maxie!" she yelled.

"oh it is on!" max laughed and swung even higher. soon the girls were laughing like little kids, swinging as high as they possibly could.

max jumped off the swing, followed by el.

"will you teach me to skate now?" el asked hopefully.

"you sure? it's quite hard." max warned the girl with her eyebrows raised.

el nodded. "i'm not scared. i'm with you."

so eleven and max walked over to the graffiti-covered skatepark. max set her board down and explained to el what to do.

(a/n: how the fuck do you teach someone to skate board)

el carefully stepped onto the board, sticking her arms out to help her balance. she grabbed max's hand, steadying herself and grinning.

she pushed of the ground slowly, the board moving, and she did again and again, max running alongside her.

for the next hour or so, this is what they did, until el could almost skate around the whole park without falling.

a few times, she had fallen off, but she didn't think anything of it. she'd been in more pain than a grazed elbow before.

then, the two girls sat down on the green grass. el started to pick daisies and thread them into a daisy chain. max watched the girl. el's tongue poked out of the corner of her mouth in concentration. el glanced up and grinned, before picking up the daisy crown she had made and carefully placing it on top of max's red hair which was shining in the sunlight.

"pretty." she whispered. el then laid her head on max's lap, looking up at the girl, smiling.

the green grass swayed gently in the breeze, the sun started to slowly set, painting the sky a shade of pale pink, reflecting in the girls eyes as they admired the other.
