the next day, the whole party arranged to meet up at the mall in the evening to sneak into the movies.

max knocked on hoppers door holding her bike at 6:30. eleven opened it and smiled, saying bye to hopper and closing the front door. she climbed onto the back of max's bike and max started off down to the road. they were meeting the boys out the front at 6:45 and max and el had decided to bike there together.

eleven slid her arms around maxs waist, holding on tight so that she didn't fall. she leaned her head on her back. their bodies fit together and their hair fluttered in the cool summer breeze.

the road was empty as they flew past fields of green grass and bright flowers, painted gold but the slowly setting sun in the sky.

it was peaceful.

it was calm.

until they from far off, they heard the speaking of unoiled bike wheels. eleven looked confused as she turned around to see mike and lucas biking quite a way behind them. she didn't really want to talk to mike until they got to the mall, because she liked to bike ride there to be her and max's thing, so she didn't wave to the boys, hoping that they hadn't seen them.

just as she was about to turn her head back for the face the way they were going, she heard a thump, and watched mikes lanky limbs flail in the air as he toppled off of his bike. lucas clutched his breaks and skidded to a holy to see it mike was ok. mike wasn't badly hurt, and as el started to giggle while max biked on, unaware of why the girl behind her was laughing, eleven watched mike stand up quickly, awkwardly and unsuccessfully trying to convince lucas that he hadn't fallen off his bike and looked stupid doing it.

the further away they biked, the harder eleven started to laugh. max glanced back, confused.

"what's so funny?" max asked, with a curious smile on her face.

"mike- he-" eleven tried to explain, but she was laughing too hard to barely get any words out of her mouth.

the cute giggle of the brunette behind started to make max laugh as well, and soon enough, they were both in hysterics as they biked down the road to the mall.
