Chapter 1

They walked mindlessly throughout the streets, tired feet, tired minds of the routine of working from nine to five. Their lives destined to die with regrets, wishes, and dreams that were too far from reach because they were born at the bottom only to reach the middle and think they made something in their lives, that they had made. Never realizing that was the plan along to believe they had made it when in reality, the goal of reaching the top of the ladder could never be climbed because it was broken off and held in pieces by those on the top because no one liked sharing their riches; dragons who slept underneath their stolen treasure, destined to die with the same regrets, wishes, and dreams because of their own greed.

Ami watched and watched; waiting for something to occur on the streets though nothing did happened. They were already thinking about their routine dinner and of the same thing for the next day and the day after that.

She didn't understand humans at all, yet she wanted to be one so bad. But Ami's life was a different type of routine, training until she was the strongest, train until she could conquer the world, though never to conquer it but save it from the demons who feasted on the humans below her. Destined to defend them, but for what?

She could protect them from the demons that surrounded them but she could never save them from the demon they were already were.

The chosen one was a halfling, half human and half Nephilim. Destined to save not just the human world but Ami's world as well. Though if they were raised in the human world, they wouldn't even know the basics in fighting or their own power. Ami shivered at the thought of a clueless chosen one. For years, she had pictured the chosen one to be the most powerful Nephilim ever, covered in marked blessings from the King and a master at all seven elements.

The breeze dragged the stench of gasoline and smoke. Han jumped from the building next to Ami's towards her.

"No sign of them," Han said breathlessly. Ami sighed, standing up frustrated with herself. Han was a seeker, he could seek anyone with just a scent. Everyone in the world had a unique scent but to know that faint scent that a seer had given them had led them nowhere, but a broad city meant nothing. In the Nephilim world beside having an affinity for a certain element, Nephilims could have other gifts, each Nephilim had an extra blessing from the King. A seer, seeker, keeper, and a breaker. Keepers could retain large amount of information and they usually are taught from very young ages about the Nephilim history, every blessed tattoo out there or marking as some called it. All the names of the King and everything about him. A breaker is a Nephilim who can break through any barrier or holding, which usually meant they were taught to break demonic holdings or witches' spells.

"Should we go hunting for demons, then?" Han asked. Ami pondered on the idea. A good hunt would make her feel alive.

"You can go on ahead, I'll stay and scout again."

"But, you aren't a seeker. You're a seer." Han towered over Ami, he stood around 6'0 where Ami was about 5'2; he was lean and muscular. He had East Asian features with monolid eyes and jet black hair. Han was actually very attractive, and Ami could see girls steal glances at him when they walked in the humans' cities side by side. He had a heart shape face like Ami's, but his nose bridge was flat, and he had long thin lips with straight black brows. He was pale unlike Ami who had olive skin with a neutral undertone.

"I just don't feel like going back to apartment, I'm just going to scout around, I guess." She said . His body tensed but then soften.

"Whatever you say, see you in the morning." Ami stared as Han leaped into the dark night.
