Chapter 7

There was something Ami never told anyone. Well, maybe it was because she never spoke closely with anyone but still there was something. It always loomed in the back of her mind threatening to expose her to the world, but she always stopped it before it escaped her lips and destroyed her. And it was that she was always scared. She feared every single shadow, sound, and smell. After constant trauma, her body never rested. No, she was always alert, always awake. A good night sleep was something she never had, not because of terrors of her past that could haunt her. She learned to regret nothing she did in life because if she did then she would have to cry over every little thing she did. Her body never learned though, to get over the things in the past.

Right now, she was alone standing in front of a blacking looming skyscraper. Her hands shook with fear. There was about a hundred of level three demons running around. Looking for Devyn. Ami took a deep breath and exhaled loudly. They would never stop coming, forever hunting Devyn and as long she was the chosen one, Ami would be stuck as her guardian, bound to lead, guide, and protect for so long as she remained the guardian. If she didn't track all these demons in the city every single night, they would pile up and be unstoppable.

This would have been much easier if Devyn had lived in the middle of nowhere where nothing happened but a city? Where crime rates are always high, death, violence, and injustice. This city was overflooding with demons. Nephilims usually didn't live in cities, they lived in the urban sprawls or in the out skirts of the city. Living inside of cities, was draining. A day didn't go by where low-level demons would tap or knock on the doors or windows in Ami's apartment. Waking her up and snickering while they woke her up from sleep. It was pointless to go after them because they were so weak and it's what they would want. For Ami to waste her energy on them, so the stronger ones would come to pick her off piece by piece. Her body would wake her up for every little sound that snickered in the darkness.

Yes, snickering. It was around her now.

"She found us." The weaker demons formed shadows running into the building, warning the stronger demons. Ami gripped her sword firm, and made the trembling stop as well as her fear. She held her breath and steady her heart rate. If she even showed one drop of fear to any demon she would die because they fed off fear. The other night with the level one demon, Ami was so focused on surviving and making it out alive she was able to kick the fear out her mind.

She was no survivor, but a thrive, she didn't just have to get up every single time she fell, she had to fly higher each time she fell. Not a dreamer but a chaser, for anyone could dream a beautiful dream and wish for a happy ending. But how many people actually chased after their dreams? There were a lot of dreamers in the world but few chasers. And Ami was a chaser, it's why she was here. Why she was out here slaughtering demons left and right. Why she hadn't given up on being the guardian, because she had to keep going, keep moving. To get her happiness, to feel fulfilled, to see her family's honor be redeemed. There was so many things she wanted in life. So many happy hopes and wishes. And if to get them she had to go through hell and back, then nothing would stop her from chasing even the devil down to get what she wanted in life.

"Come out and play with me." Ami taunted the demons hiding in the building. Some seeder witch must summon a portal from the inside for them to be multiplying at this level. The portal had to be destroyed. But who was the stupid Nephilim to go in alone to shut down a portal with a hundred level three demons in every single room?

Apparently, Ami was stupid enough because as soon she taunted the demons, she walked through the black heavy doors and there was nothing in sight. The lower level demons had created a black fog to blind her. Growling could be heard from all around her, hissing and then it stopped.
