                                        Chapter 3

Devyn hated high school.

"One more year of this." She whispered to herself.

Raindrops fell against her umbrella; a distant rumbling could be heard from the clouds. People rushed besides her with briefcases over their heads as they rushed to work. There were only so few students from her high school walking on the sidewalks like her. Bright red blazers with the crest of the most prestigious private school in all the United States.

St. Michael School

St. Michael was a school known for every student graduating ending up in ivy schools or schools considered to an ivy level. There was this belief that ivy schools didn't even look at St. Michael's students' application; if the name St. Michael was the school they graduated from, they were in. Devyn wasn't like all St. Michael's students. The one percent that lived in D.C, including children of senators, judges, ambassadors, and even the president. They all went to St. Michaels from kindergarten to twelfth grade, this unbreakable bond had formed between all St. Michael's students and Devyn wasn't part of it. Devyn was what they called a charity case. Every so often St. Michael would handle out a couple of full ride on scholarships to students around the DMV area that were the best in their schools in academies or sports. Most came from Montgomery County, one of the wealthiest counties in the States. The county next to Montgomery was a different story Prince George County otherwise known as PG county was looked down upon. A county known for its dangerous streets and schools, no one believed nothing good come out of PG county. Yet Devyn came out PG county on a full ride scholarship to St. Michaels. Her school classified her as a hero. A cinderella story, one of their own had made it and that would shut up the DMV about PG county being terrible. Since Baltimore wasn't even considered part of the DMV, even though it was in Maryland.

It began pouring even harder than before. Devyn sighed as the school came to view. It was gated off from the city, it was a Jeffersonian architecture styled school. The school looked very much like the university of Virginia with a large building in the front with a dome shape roof and in front of it a smaller triangle shaped roof and the pillars that handle it up with steps going up towards it. The dome shape building was the high school building and one the left was a large rectangular red brick building that the middle school and right across the middle school was another building that looked the same which was the elementary school. Limos and high-end cars pulled to the gates to drop off students off.

Devyn entered through the side gate where students that walked entered through. The walk to the high school felt like forever. By the time Devyn got there, her skirt was dam with all the rain that sprayed against her black skirt because of the wind. Thankfully she had worn black tights to school, so her legs weren't freezing from the rain and wind.

Laughter filled the halls of her school. The entrance of the school was beautiful. The dome shape roof had a beautiful chandelier hanging from the top aligned with a pale beige marble floor with the crest of the school designed in the middle of the floor. On the left was the main office that an all glass wall room. On the right side was shelves filled with trophies from everywhere. A large dark wooden staircase was already busy with juniors and seniors trying to get to their lockers that were located upstairs. Devyn quickly ran up the stairs too. The rest of the school felt like a normal high school with standard dark red lockers and classrooms designed like college classrooms. It was supposed to help students prepare for college, but Devyn didn't know how true that held up.

Flyers covered every lock with reminders to buy tickets for the spring formal and prom. Devyn ripped the flyers off her locker while she spun her lock to open her locker. She shoved her blue backpack into her locker and pulled out her textbooks for her morning classes. Her locker slammed for her and Devyn turned to see her friend Cerise standing before her sliming.
