Chapter Fifteen
"Where's my latte?" Harper yelled from her room probably scrolling through Instagram.
"Coming!" I reply rolling my eyes, she knew I was trying to do my homework when she bothered me, and she wasn't doing anything to begin with. Heaven forbid if she lifted a finger.
I bring her the tall starbucks cup (thankful I didn't have to make it) and held it out in front of her. She didn't look up from her phone.
I sighed to get her attention. "Your drink."
"I don't like your tone Adira." She blatantly replies frowning. Then she grins wickedly, and I knew I was going to regret what happens next.
She had get her a different straw, and complained saying she didn't want a red one when I came back. This repeated with the temperature of the drink, where I had add ice then remove it, and the cup it came it which I had to change out three times until she was satisfied.
"Now why wouldn't you do this from the beginning?" Harper tilted her head back and I could see the storm swimming in her light brown eyes.
I ignored her and walked out with a low sign. Apparently my step-sister has the ears of a bat because she heard me and called my name.
"I hope you're glad we let you stay here, we can just as easily kick you out." She says this satisfied that she has something to hold over my head.
I walk out of the room, not even bothering to mention it was my house first. The fact is that it didn't matter anyway.

I had trouble paying attention to what the person in front of me was saying. It sounded like the adults in Charlie Brown, indecipherable.
"I'm sorry can you repeat that." I apologize to the customer with a small smile. They huffed annoyed before relaying their rather long and complicated order with an edge to their tone.
"I'll be back soon with your drinks." I gather the menus and walk back to the kitchen. I rest my hands on my head and take a deep breath. I contemplated splashing my face with water, or getting another cup of coffee.
Three cups of coffee in one night, one more couldn't hurt.
10:43 PM, another hour of my shift left. It would be a miracle if I got any sleep tonight. That would make it the third night in a week, but it was necessary.
I've been picking up as many extra shifts as I could these past few weeks to buy that dress I saw at the mall. It was pricey, but stunning.
I figured I could indulge in my desires for once.
It also meant I was stretching myself thin, between work, school and home. I was slightly behind on my school work, but I could catch up when I got home, and sacrifice a few more hours of sleep.
I knew the sleep-deprivation would catch up to me eventually, but there were too many other things to focus on at the moment.
I was close to getting the money. I really put myself on a budget for the month in order to scrap my savings. I had to plan this out perfectly and slacking off for a moment would certainly put a wrench in the works.
Just two more days before I could go to the mall and get it.
I could do this.
I think.

"Adira, are you sure this is worth it?" Edmon asks me in concern handing me a cup of coffee. I thanked him, accepting it gratefully.
