Rikki’s P.O.V

I ran as fast as I could back to the Mess Hall, just to see that if by any luck, JC was still there. I hardly doubt it though because I left him waiting for like 30 minutes. It was the middle of the night by now, and I was running around, barely knowing exactly where I was going because it was so dark.

I was so scared of the dark. Ever since I was a kid, I didn’t like it. I guess I just watched too many of those horror movies where scary things happen in the dark, so I’ve always been scared.

Ugh, the things I do for this boy.

I saw the Mess Hall now only a few feet away from me, the small lights hanging from the windows illuminating the way a bit, revealing it. I stopped in front of it for a minute just to bend down and start panting like a dog, trying to get some sort of breath in.

When I was finished, I walked around the big cabin, yelling his name, hoping that he would be hiding behind a bush or something.

But no one was there.

I decided to check inside the Mess Hall just to make sure that he wasn’t in there.

And still nothing.

I walked by outside and sighed in defeat. “If I were him, I would’ve left too.” I mumbled to myself and walked back to my cabin.

I approached my cabin again and kicked some dirt on the floor before I went up the stairs. My hand reached out for the door handle when I saw a figure standing in front of the huge lake in the distance, throwing what seemed to be a small object into the water.

I threw my hand back to my side and walked around my cabin to try and look closer at the person, without actually getting close.

I finally gave up when it finally hit me that it was too dark to see anything. I got off of the small porch like thing on my cabin and tried to walk closer to the figure next to the lake.

When I was about 5 feet away from the person, I accidently stepped on a twig, causing them to turn their head around. I froze, hoping this person wouldn’t immediately attack me or something.

“Rikki?” the voice said.

I tried to squint my eyes a little and see who this person was.

“Hey, it’s me, JC. I know you can barely see me.” He said.

I stood there, soaking in what he just said. Then I finally got the nerve to speak up. “Oh h-hey JC. H-how’d you know it was me? You said yourself you can barely see.”

JC shrugged his shoulders and turned back to face to lake. “I don’t know, I just kinda figured you would have at least come looking for me after you didn’t show up at the Mess Hall. I didn't think you were that rude enough to just let the whole thing go.”

My heart sunk a litle.

Rude?

I put my hands in my pockets and walked towards him a little bit until I was standing right next to him. “Sorry about that. I didn’t purposely mean it. The girls just kinda dragged me to our cabin and time passed as we started talking and stuff. But as soon as the girls started talking about you, I immediately remembered and ran out the door.” I bit my lip after I finished my last sentence, hoping I could somehow take it back.

The moonlight fell on his face, showing that smirk on his face now. “So you were talking about me, huh?”

I rolled my eyes and faced the lake. “Wow, you sure got a big ego there, huh?”
