It was a time of learning and finding out who she was, since the incident when she had suffered under the hands of her stepfather and she had stabbed him to make him stop. That time he had done unmentionable things to her even though he was injured Lucy had fought back some how finding incredible strength which she thought came from the woman. The woman who had suddenly appeared from out of her vision, she was already being hurt by him flung face down on the bed. Lucy was only aware of the woman when there was a hard grip on her wrist. The sickly smell of decay and the sea had taken over her senses, it had taken just those small things to help her struggle from under his body. Lucy knew what he was about to do. It was a moment of fight or flight. In her hand she had found the small dagger with the skull and crossbones design on it she had it hidden under her pillow. When he had left her after he had punished her body as he had wanted, sore and hurting. Lucy looked for the dagger, she had turned her bedroom upside down in her search but it was not to be found. She heard her Mother calling her for her meal she did not know how she was to face him and not let her Mother know, what her stepfather was doing to her. She entered the kitchen, he gave her such a look as he saw her stood in the doorway she almost fainted. She noticed he had a bandage on his wound she smiled to herself but only inside. "Sit !." Lucy heard him and in a moment she forced herself to sit on her chair, next to him at the table. Her Mother was busy getting the food together Lucy was sure she had been crying, she kept her face away from Lucy. "Where's Tom ?. Does he know it's tea ?." She asked her Mother she was willing her to turn round, but he answered her "He's in his bedroom, that's where he is to stay !." It was a very awkward meal, eaten in silence. He kept his hand on her knee he squeezed his hand hard. He knew he was hurting her, but his face showed his pleasure. As soon as she could leave the table, first she had to ask his permission to get up and go to her room. At first he totally ignored her request it wasn't until her Mother in a timid voice, that Lucy had never heard before from her Mother. "Dave let Lucy leave the table please, Dave ?." Lucy had almost run from the room and up the stairs to find Tom in his bedroom crying. "Tom, what's he done ?. Come here to me." Tom climbed into her lap cuddling up to his sister, who held him tight. Lucy got the story out of Tom, that Dave had from his encounter with Lucy had taken his temper out on a young defenceless child. Tom told her he had come into his bedroom flung him on to his bed he had forced his trousers off him.Tom had found Dave's hands around his neck till Tom passed out. Lucy cried when she heard what Tom had told her, they both clung to each other. She was very frightened of Dave now more than ever before, she felt responsible that she had made Dave so angry in hurting him. That Tom was going to suffer, all he was a ten year old little boy who knew nothing of being hurt. She checked all over Tom, he had no injuries at all on his little body. But, she now saw his treatment of Tom as a message directed to her.
Lucinda held the green stone on her necklace, tears fell down her face all this hurt she was now bringing on to other's. At the loss of Tommy her Father the infamous Captain Daniels feared amongst all Pirates, had suddenly changed into a bumbling wreck of a person. That he could no longer be trusted to stay as the Captain of his ship. So the only person capable to take over was the Master Logan, she could not as she was a woman. Her Father was imprisoned in his cabin under lock and key, someone guarded him all the hour's day and night. She was aware that Master Logan was a dangerous person not just by his handling of his sword. But she herself had found out how dangerously he could be in her life on board the Barnacle. With her Father's blessing he had taken it on himself to tame the wild creature that was the Captain's daughter. Lucinda had felt afraid of him she had suffered more strokes of punishment than any man on board had suffered. But it was at night in a darkened cabin that Lucinda knew she had met her match, the first time she had pulled the dagger out from the front of her dress. She had threatened him with it they had fought each other she had been like a wild animal. It had led to her being tied to the dunking chair dropped into the sea so many times that the crew forced to watch the punishment. Thought he had meant to kill her but Captain Logan had other ideas.
Two different lives, lived in fear of the same thing. They each was under the control of someone, who thought of them as nothing but his property. Both faced their own demons inside of them, that they had to allow the treatment of their bodies let themselves be used if not someone else would suffer.
Lucy knew that letting Dave turn her into something that was not normal for a human being to do to another person. But it stopped Dave hurting her brother, the second time that Dave had sent Tom into oblivion. He had woken up half naked but all his lower half hurt. He had refused to let Lucy to take a look, but a few days later Lucy was putting the family wash into the machine, she saw the state of Tom's clothes. Dave had leaned down to whisper in her ear "Tonight." He had said it so quiet that she at first wondered why he had said the word "Bright." But at the night she knew what the word was, she now wondered what her life was going to be if he was still in their lives. Sadness was about to befall her and her family, at the taking away of one of them. Life was never going to be the same, she wished to have had the dagger to take her Revenge.
