Going Home (Jake)

Man time truly flies when you're having fun. My friend Jake got his license a few months back and decided to take a road trip with a couple other friends. It felt like we were on top of the world. We finally had some freedom to do what we wanted. We drove up to Lake Michigan and found a nearby campground to stay at for a week. We all had a great time. This will definitely go down in history as my best summer ever. Just think, going on a trip with your friends. No parents. Fake IDs. Hidden romances. It's like every cliche indie teen movie! It's was like something from a young adult novel. In my mind at least. To say I've developed feelings for my best friend is an understatement. I want to spend all my time with him. He's so cute. The way his eyes light up when he looks at the stars. The way his hair flops down over his forehead. The concentrated face he makes when he plays guitar. It's a classic case of falling for a fuckboy. Now I say that in the most affectionate way possible, but Jake is known for being a bit of a man-whore. That's one reason I refuse to initiate any type of romantic connection. He plays girls like arcade games, and I don't wanna go through a heartbreak and losing my best friend. Sometimes I think it would be different if we dated though. I mean dating your best friend is, like, perfect isn't it. But I know him all too well. He flirts with every girl he meets. Not me, but that's besides the point. Maybe it's because he thinks I'll react negatively. Who am I kidding, he's just not interested. But I will admit I get a bit jealous when I see him trying to seduce all the girls in a 5 mile radius. Though I will admit, seeing his failed attempts with older women cracks me up a bit. I mean who does he think he is? For being a 16 year old boy from Frankenmuth, Michigan he sure has a big ego. I love it. He gets so cocky sometimes, but with a face and body like his, he has a right to. I mean, how is that even fair? Sit down and get braces or have an acne breakout goddamn it. Aside from that though, I'm just glad I was allowed to have this experience. Like, who's parents let a bunch of dumbass teenagers drive hours from home and stay together for a week? Oh right, ours. I'm truly grateful that my parents were so laid back about it. It's because I grew up with Jake. The Kiszka residence was my second home. So therefore they trusted him. He even asked them for me because he knew they'd say yes to him. And we didn't do anything too illegal. I mean there was alcohol some nights. And a blunt or so. Nobody got hurt, though. Sadly, it was time to leave. We packed up the van that Jake borrowed from his mom and hit the road. We blasted all sorts of great music. And after a couple hours the van sat in the parking lot where everyone's parents decided to meet. It was around 8 o'clock so it was pretty dark. Everyone grabbed their stuff and said their goodbyes. I stayed planted in the passenger seat while Jake ran in the store to get some snacks. I knew my parents didn't show up. It was Saturday night. They were probably baked off their asses. So I waited. After about 10 minutes Jake came back to the car.
"No show?"
"Nope. They're probably too high to function," I laughed.
"Haha, well I guess I'm taking you home then."
"Taking me home? To my house or yours?" I ask with a smirk.
"Which would you prefer?"
"Up to you, babe."
"You feeling okay Y/N?"
"Yeah, why?"
"You just called me babe," he said looking me up and down, biting his lip a little. Oh, two people can play this game Jacob.
"I know."
"Oh, do you now."
"Yes," I say looking deep into his eyes. He leans forward a little. Everything is silent. I find myself holding my breath, as I switch glances between his eyes and his lips.
"Well, babe. Two can play that game." I giggle to myself a little having previously thought that.
"Hmm and what's your next move Kiszka?"
"This," he said grabbing my chin and closing the gap between us. I kissed back almost immediately, basking in the moment.
"Haha, wow," he said pulling away.
"What? Was it bad?"
"No... A little," he chuckled.
"Ahhh I'm sorry that was my first kiss." I immediately felt my cheeks flush. I couldn't bring myself to look at him.
"Hey, don't be upset. No one is good at kissing the first time. I mean, during my first kiss I practically licked her mouth."
"Really? Even I'm not that dumb," I laugh a little. "But I definitely don't know what I'm doing."
"Well, you'll figure it out it the next five minutes."
"Wha-" he cut me off pulling me back in. "Uh Jake what am I supposed to do?" I mumble against his lips.
"Haha just relax and move with me okay?"
"Okay." We both chuckle a bit and pull away.
"Hey, come here, it'll make it easier." He pats his lap. I crawl over to him and straddle his legs. I look him in the eyes and place my forehead against his. A smile covers my face instantly.
"This is crazy."
"What?" He said that gently and in the most sincere voice I've ever heard.
"Jake. I like you so much. And this is everything I've dreamt of doing with you. But I don't think I can do this."
"What do you mean?"
"Come on Jakey. We both know that you jump from girl to girl. I want a serious relationship. Not just someone you hookup with then talk about to the whole school. And I really like how close we are. I don't want to lose 12 years of friendship."
"Y/n... Okay. You know I'm not the mushy type. But I'm gonna be real with you. I have had a crush on you since the third grade. Once I started dating girls, I realized that I'd never find one as great as you. I didn't want to weird you out by saying I liked you, though. I wanted to continue being your best friend. And in the meantime I tried to push down my feelings by dating other people. But none of them were good enough. None of them were you. I think. I. I uh. I think I'm. I'm in love with you!"
"Wow. Uh I'm kinda speechless. Jakey what does this mean?"
"Well, what do you want it to mean?"
"I want it to mean that you're gonna take me on an official date tomorrow."
"Haha okay! We can go watch a romance movie and make fun of how cheesy it is, then go eat dinner! And we can-"
"You're a dork." I grab his face and kiss him again. This time it feels more natural. We continue until we need to breathe.
"Wow."
"Is that a good wow?"
"Yeah."
"What cat got your tongue?"
"I- how- what? That was so much better?"
"I guess I have a good teacher." I shrugged and watched his face darken. I climb back into my seat. "Take me home, Jakey!" He giggles and starts the car. "And by the way. I love you too." He chuckles one last time before turning up the radio. He reached over for my hand and rolled down the windows. I look out at the stars, none of them are as amazing and beautiful as my Jakey though. I look back at him and smile before I feel myself dozing off. I get comfy and fall asleep.
"Goodnight, princess."
"Night."
