Melanie Greene's secretary, Charlie was busy working when Robert walked into her office, but she broke off, looking up, her face lighting up at the sight of him. Women always smiled at him like that. He wasn't merely  accustomed to it, he expected it and would have missed it if he didn't get those bright_ eyed glances.

" Good morning, Charlie, Charlie how are you?" Robert greeted. He liked people and it made him happy to know all was well with them. He has a flaw which he preferred life on the sunny side and tended to avoid anyone who might annoy him especially in the mornings.

Charlie never did. She told him gaily that she was fine, how was he?

"Great," ,he said."Is she busy in there?" He asked looking at the door on his back, which was Melanie's office.

Charlie nodded her head and indicated for him a chair to sit while he waited.
He tried to start a conversation with her but all was in vain.
But it was typical of him to notice how she secretly glanced at him through her lashes.

Charlie had been in love with Robert since the first day he had stepped foot into the office. She had always loved tall men, and Robert was a good six feet, well build, with dark hair and had a charm that surely only a stone_ hearted woman could resist. She always envied her boss.

After some few minutes, the office door opened and there was Melanie escorting her business partner out. She then called Robert in the office. He was about to kiss her when the phone rang.

Annoyed, she answered, " Who? Yes put him through. Hello, Mrs Hudson, have you found anything interesting for me?"

Meanwhile, Robert had walked round the table and he stood behind her.He tickled her and she slightly giggled.

"No I haven't had time to look at it.sorry I've been too busy but I'll look at it this afternoon." She then hung up.

"That was Mrs Hudson, estate agent; she says a new place just came on to the market, just what we want. Can you come on Saturday morning? We could see this cottage , then have lunch somewhere in the country."

"Good idea." He nodded, " Where is this cottage?" "Is it far?"

"Quite a drive, apparently, and it's not a straight run. That's why we are meeting Mrs Hudson at her office in Melbourne, she'll show us the way there, and take us over the cottage. Robert looked a little dubious.

" Do we want somewhere that isolated? Is there a road to this cottage, or is it in the middle of a field? Why do I get the feeling that I'm going to drive miles everyday to get milk and bread?"

"If the farm is that close, we'll be able to our milk fresh everyday, and no doubt we could get our things from them."

"Did Mrs Hudson tell you the price?"

"A little below our maximum figure!"said Melanie

"Well ,that's a first! All the others Grace suggested were above our maximum."

"Exactly. But we've been disappointed too often. I'm not getting to excited until I see it."

Shoving the discussion aside, Robert tried to talk her into going out to have something to eat but she refused. She had insisted that she would order some so that they can it together in her office.

Robert just watched her. Sometimes he was jealous of her work. He always felt afraid that her job meant everything to her. He sometimes wished she felt the same about him as he did but sensed that she didn't.

They had been engaged for three months and wished she would agree to fix a date for the wedding. Once they are married he could feel more secure and get over his fear that she might meet someone else.

The following day, Robert couldn't make it so he had to call Melanie and inform her. This actually meant that she would go and see the cottage all by herself.

She met up with Grace.

"Well, its time for you to see the cottage,I wish you will like it. It might need some repair.Do you want to come with me, or will you take your own car."

"I'll take mine" with that they set off.

At the farm, they were walking towards the cottage when all of a sudden there came a man out of the fields shouting at them.

Shocked Melanie was about to ask what he had said but before she could, he had reached them standing a few feet from them and shouted,

"How many times do I have to tell you to get off my land?"

Puzzled she asked, "His land? I don't understand, is this his cottage?"

"No no no , it isn't his."

"Then what does he mean, his land?"
Mrs Hudson didn't answer her. She just stood there looking nervous.

"Who is he?" Melanie asked

"Aaron Williams." Mrs Hudson answered

"For the last time will you get off my land?" Aaron snarled

Mrs Hudson stood her ground, facing up to him."Mr Williams, you don't own this cottage and the owner has been using it for many years, as you know perfectly well."

"There's no right of way, this is a private road, and am taking legal steps to establish the fact! Now get out  of here and don't ever come back."

"I came here to see this cottage, Mr Williams, and as you don't own it you can't stop me." Melanie bristled.

He slowly directed his gaze to her, "Don't be so sure of yourself." He went on fiercely, But I can refuse to let anyone who buys the place to use my land as an access, that can becer happen."

"Don't you try threatening me" Melanie shouted back at him.

"Am not threatening, am warning you" Aaron said

At that, Mrs Hudson asked, "Shall we go and look round the cottage now, Miss Greene?"

"Yes" She murmured still gazing at Aaron.

In a soft dangerous voice, he said, "I meant every word"

He had the look of a man who always meant what he said, with this she believed him.
