Thirty minutes later, they arrived at the restaurant. All the way Melanie's mind was full of thoughts that she didn't realise that they had reached.

She was brought back to her surroundings when Robert lightly tapped at her shoulder. He was waiting for her at her side. He extended his hand for her to take. Getting out of the car, he closed the car's door and gave his car keys to the valet.

Making their way to the restaurant's door, they were greeted by a waitress. She wore a big smile which mostly was directed to Robert.

"Hello! How may I help you?" She asked in a whiny voice.

Rolling her eyes, Melanie thought;

Jeez, she is so annoying. She really didn't like her.

"Yes. A table for two please." Robert said.

"Follow me." The waitress said.

They were led to their table which was at the far end of the restaurant, located near a window. Robert pulled Melanie's chair for her to settle first before he comfortably sat on his. The scenery out of the window was mesmerizing that Melanie couldn't give attention to her other surrounding.

"Mel! Melanie! Melanie!" Robert called her breaking her gaze.

"Mmm"

"Are you okay?" Robert asked.

"Yeah I am. Why?"

"It's just that I have been calling you for the last two minutes but it seems you have zoned out."

"Sorry I didn't notice you calling me. I was really mesmerized by the beautiful scenery. Isn't it beautiful?"

"Oh I agree with you."

The waitress came at their table and asked;

"May I take your order?"

Looking at their menus, they ordered  their meals.

"I'll have a fillet steak, sweet potatoes and vegetable rice. And for my drink, I'll like to have a glass of lemon water." Melanie said.

"I'll have fried rice with mixed vegetables. And for my drink, I'll have a glass of red wine." Robert said.

Writing their orders down, she asked if they needed anything else. Satisfied, she left them be to prepare their order.

"How was your work?" Robert asked trying to break the silence between them.

"Great but a bit tiresome." Melanie answered.

"It seems so because you really are zoning out."

Trying to change the subject from her, she asked;

"And you, how's yours going on?"

"Ah.........You know the usual." Robert answered.

Fidgeting with her fingers because of her anxiety to know what he wanted to tell her, she asked lowly;

"What did you want to talk about?"

"Mmmm?" Robert asked as he didn't hear what she has said.

"I asked, what did you want to talk about?" Melanie repeated.

"Oh about that, can we just eat first and we can talk about that later?" Robert asked.

"Yeah." Melanie said.

They continued talking about random staff until they were interrupted by the waitress bringing their food. Leaving them, they dug into their food.

Everyone was so engrossed in their food until Melanie decided to speak but thought otherwise because she didn't want to be seen as impatient.She continued with her dinner.

"Would you want some dessert?" Robert asked.

"Yeah I would love some." Melanie said.

Robert raised his hand signaling the waitress who quickly came at their table. She took their order and left.

They made little talks until the waitress returned bringing their dessert.

In the middle of their dessert, Robert spoke;

"About that talk that I told you about......" He trailed off

"Mm what about it?" Melanie asked

"I'll be going out of the country for a few weeks for business." He said

"Out of the country? Which country will you be traveling to?" Melanie asked shock written all over her face.

"Four weeks" Robert answered

"Oh!" She looked sad.

"Don't worry about it. I'll be back before you even sense I'm gone."
He said all a while holding her hand. He knew that she was sad but she'll come around.

"When will you be going?"

"Tomorrow early in the morning."

"Okay then, I think you should rest."

They then talked about random things it was late at night. Paying the bill, he took hold of her hand and led her out of the restaurant. They waited as the valet brought their car. On their way home, Melanie was silent and this made Robert hate himself. He just wished he had other alternatives, unfortunately, he didn't. He just wished that it could be over soon so he can come back to her.

He parked his car in front of her apartment, got out of the car and went to open Melanie's side. He escorted her apartment room. At her apartment door, he waited until she opened her door.

Before she entered, he took hold of her arm and turned her to face him. He held held her chin tilting it then smashing his lips with hers.

Breaking the kiss and wished her goodnight, he left.
