“I knew it!” Bri exclaims.
“You knew what?”
“That he bought you that necklace!” She declares.
I blush, “I thought I told you!”
“Know you didn’t! You lied to us the next day!” Sophie yells.
“Because I knew you would act like this!”
“You still wear it don’t you?” Ali looks at me suspiciously.
“No,” I look down.
“Liar,” Bri declares and reaches under the collar of my shirt.
“What are you doing!? I’ll scream!” She yanks out the necklace. “Be careful! You’ll break the chain!”
She let go and starts laughing, “I knew it! You’ve worn it every day since he gave it to you, haven’t you?”
I ignore her and tucke the necklace back in my shirt. They laugh at my humiliation, until someone knocks on Sophie’s door. Thankful for the interruption, I tell them to come in. However, once I see who was at the door, I not thankful anymore.
“Triston? What are you doing here?” I ask my cheeks turning red.
“This is my house, Val. Remember?” He looks at me weirdly and then he turns to Sophie, “Your mom just left with Angelina. She said she’d be back later tonight and my dad is gone for the evening so we are on our own for dinner. Do you want to order pizza?”
“Sure, but you aren’t throwing a party, Triston,” Sophie glared at him.
“I wasn’t planning on it, but I am having a few friends over, mom. What are you doing in here anyways?” He glances at that laptop in between our circle on the floor. Walking closer, he sees his name on the screen, “Are you writing about me?” I lean over as fast as lighting and shut the computer.
“Was that saved?” Bri yells.
“Yes!” I say. I lean back with the laptop in my hands.
“What the hell?” Triston looks confused.
“We are writing a story!” Bri says cheerfully.
“About?” He encourages her to continue.
“Us! Duh! And yes you are in it! You are actually a big part of it! Just ask Val!” she says a little too cheerfully.
“Val?” Triston asks.
I speechless at first, but I’m able to form words, “What she means is it is a story about how we met and became friends and you are an important part because we all knew you before we became friends! Well, Ali sort of new you, I mean you were in some classes together, right? Yeah, I think I’m right. And you were Sophie’s stepbrother and Bri’s friends and my um, my ex-best friend sort of, in a way. I mean you played an important role in my life and everyone else’s. So, since you knew us all, we had to tell the truth about everything so we had to write about you because you played such an important part to us becoming friends, right? Yeah, okay that makes since. I think. Yes, it does!” I look around and everyone is staring at me incredulously. “What?”
“Yeah, okay Val. So when do I get to read this book?”
“Oh, you don’t! See because that would just be weird if you read about yourself in a book? And we’re going back and forth between point of views so it would be weird for you to read what we think and I mean you aren’t really in it that much. So, it really isn’t that imperative that you read it anyway. You should just go hang out with you friends! Bye!” After my second case of verbal diarrhea, I think everyone is now thinking I need to see a psychiatrist.
“Alright, Val. I’ll see you guys later,” he looked at me for a second then turned around and left the room. The second the door is shut, everyone, except for me, starts laughing hysterically.
“That was awful, Val!” Sophie yells.
“It couldn’t have gotten much worse than that,” Ali chokes out any between laughs.
“Aw, I feel bad for her!” Bri smiles.
“This was your fault, Bri! You just had to bring me into it!” I grab the pillow she had thrown at Ali and start to attack her. After a few good swings, Ali takes the pillow from me.
“Enough! It’s finally my turn now!” She throws the pillow to the side and takes the laptop, “This is where things get serious!”
"As if they haven't already been serious," I laugh. She ignores me and begins to type.
