(biological age: about 1 year)
Lucifer had retreated down the hall quietly and slowly, in complete fear of his little angel waking up. Tenebrae had grown much since the moment he first saw her. The nameless chubby being that had surprised him so much when she arrived at his door was now physically bigger, her hair longer, eyes brighter, she was crawling, laughing, standing and now beginning to speak but nothing had made him happier than the day those fluffy wings sprouted from her back.
The small, fluffy, grey wings brought him so much joy, and not just because they made truth to the fact that this child was actually his own, but because they were identical to his when he was her age. For once in the time he had been a father, his child had something of his, rather than her mothers, which brought some overwhelming peace to his mind.
Tenebrae's bright blue eyes, light blonde hair and button nose matched her mother's exactly. Seeing the features of the woman he once loved in his daughter was painful enough, but not seeing a shred of himself hurt even more. The devil in her eyes gave him hope, but the wings on her back made all the difference.
Who would have ever thought that the devil himself would be at the complete mercy of a small babe?
Lucifer finally exited the hall, entering his room, slowly shutting the door behind him; not a sound heard outside the kings walls. His body slumping down on the bed. He sighed, eyes closing for a moment, embracing the silence and darkness that he had not known for so long. Of course he lost sleep over the small child, but she was worth every second.
It was in times of complete silence like these that he could imagine if everything was different. He could imagine not having Tenebrae in his life and that thought brought him to a quiet, empty and pointless existence in the pit of the deepest, darkest pits of Hell. His mind could contemplate it but his heart could not comprehend living without her. Before he knew it, he embraced the darkness that was sleep.
There was a time when he thought the same of her mother and some days even now he felt he couldn't make it through the day without her. Her smile, her comfort, her eyes, her essence. Her.
Lucifer was truly lost and without direction, a certain level of absence had enveloped his heart and soul completely.
Giggles echoed through the halls of the dark castle of Hell. He inwardly groaned, it had taken him what seemed like forever to get her to sleep and now she was awake again? Such torture...
A high pitched squeal also echoed, followed by more shrieks of laughter. Lucifer's frown turned into a smile at the melodious sound of his child's joy. Maze. As much as the demon confessed her hate for Tenebrae, he often found her smiling, giggling and playing along with the babe. Today seemed to be no different. Seemed...
"Lucifer shut it up!" His eyes opened wide. The giggling continued. Maze wasn't with Tenebrae... someone else was. His blood ran cold and as if the castle knew too, the air became freezing and unforgiving. Lucifer had never jumped out of bed quicker, not even on his particular visits to Earth.
For some reason his thoughts drifted to that of an idea so sinister and terrifying, it would be difficult for most to comprehend.
Giggles still echoed through the halls.
His red robe flew behind him as the devil raced down the corridor, cursing himself for having his child's room so far from his. He did that before he saw her, not just have his eyes on her but have his heart beat just for her. He had her far away so she couldn't wrap him around her finger but that didn't last long, obviously.
