"Agent Adeline, here's the package from Agent Simmons," the security at the front desk said as I came in from my morning jog.
"Thanks Henry," I smiled as he handed it to me. I left him walking towards my room as I opened the large envelope. Once in my room I sat at my desk and slid the papers out and found a sticky note on top.
I hope this helps.
CoulsonI looked through the files smiling, it was an updated version of my files, everything that I had found out from Lincoln. My eyes watered up a bit as I found a smaller envelope and opened it to find a Shield ID like the one I had but this one was different beside the picture of myself was my name, Agent Adeline Taylor Campbell. Lincoln had told me that my middle name was actually Taylor so when I signed up for Hydra I probably gave them that name so they couldn't find my family. The door to my room opened and Steve walked in and I quickly wiped any tears that had escaped.
"What are you doing?" Steve asked coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around my shoulders. I handed him the ID and he looked it over, "That's great, Adeline," He kissed the top of my head, "He'd be so proud of you."
"Thanks, how's Wanda holding up?" I asked.
"Not too well. Maybe if you talked to her?" He suggested.
"Sure," I nodded getting up from my desk.
"I have to go see if Tony is here yet," Steve answered.
"Let us know and we'll meet in the lounge," I said before leaving him to go a few doors down to Wanda's room. I found her sitting on the edge of her bed watching the news.
"Eleven Wakandans were among those killed during the confrontation between the Avengers and a group of mercenaries in Lagos, Nigeria, last month. The traditionally reclusive Wakandans were on an outreach mission in Lagos when the attack occurred," the reporter went on speaking.
While I was gone Steve and the rest of the Avengers went to Lagos and while trying to catch Rumlow, Wanda tried to keep a bomb he had from exploding but it accidently went into a nearby building. She watched the news until I grabbed the remote turning the tv off.
"It's my fault," she mumbled into her sleeve as she turned towards me.
"No it's not," I answered walking across her room sitting beside her.
"Then turn the TV back on, you're being very specific," she sighed.
"This job, we try to save as many people as we can. Sometimes that doesn't mean everybody but, if we can't find a way to live with that. Next time maybe nobody can be saved," I told her putting an arm over her shoulders. Suddenly Vision walked through her wall as we looked at him.
"Vis, we talked about this," Wanda sighed.
"Yes. But the door was opened so I assumed...Adeline, Captain Rogers wished me to let you know that Mr. Stark is here," Vision answered.
"Thanks, we'll be down in a few minutes," I nodded.
"I'll use the door. Oh and apparently, he's brought a guest. The Secretary of State," he said before leaving and Wanda and I looked at each other.
"Alright, let's go," she answered as we both stood up and heading downstairs to the lounge and into the meeting room where Steve, Natasha, Vivian, James, Sam and Vision sat at the table and Tony in the corner.
"Oh. 5 years ago, I had a heart attack. I dropped right in the middle of my batting swing. Turned out, it was the best round of my life because after 13 hours of surgery and a triple bypass. I found something 40 years in the army never taught me: Perspective," Secretary Ross informed us walking around the table while a presentation was shown on the tv, "The world owes the Avengers an unpayable debt. You've... fought for us. Protected us. Risked your lives. While a great many people see you as heroes. There are some...would prefer the word 'vigilantes.'"
