Chapter 1

Carter's POV

All I could hear was my grandma coughing. I ran into her room.

"Do you need anything grandma", I said.

"Could you *cough* get me some *cough* soup and water please sweetie", she said in between coughs.

"Yes, I'll be right back", I said.

I'm scared for her. She's never been this sick before. If she doesn't make it through this I don't know what I'm gonna do. I don't have any other family that I know of. My mom died and my father left I think a month after I was born. Sad stuff I know.

I made some chicken noodle soup. (that's all we had). I put the soup in the microwave for a minute. Then I took it out and put my finger in it to see if it was warm enough. (I know not the healthiest choice). Then I took it up stairs with a glass of water.

"Here grandma" I said setting the water on the little table next to her bed. While she sat up so she could eat.

"Thanks Carter", she said in a soft voice.

"I love you grandma", I said.

"I love you bigger", she said.

"I love you biggest", I said back.

We have a little thing that we always do that. We always say that when we say I love you. Like when people fight over who's gonna hang up first or something.

We were really weird. But I love every moment with her. Even while my mother was alive I still had a big relationship with my grandma. My mother was always busy working or going to the doctor about her headaches.

"Carter I need to tell you something before you leave or I leave", she said.

"Ha ha very funny", I said.

"Carter sight down please. Your father lives in America", she said softly.

"WHAT, grandma how do you know this", I asked.

"Your mother gets letters for him all the time wondering how you are and stuff like that", she said.

"No this can't be true. I want to believe that my father wants nothing to do with any part of me", I said.

"Honey I can't let you stay here and watch me die like this I need to leave to America. You need to stay with your father", she said.

"Grandma please stop talking like that", I said holding back tears.

"Your leaving in 6 days", she said.

"Your shipping me over to America so I can live with a stranger that left when mom needed him the most", I said.

"Not shipping I'm sending you like a letter. It might help with your life. Sweetie you need to do something with it. You can't stay here and help me", she said.

"Okay grandma. Please when I leave make sure someone helps you. I love you to much to see you be stuck in bed with out help", I said.

"Okay", she said.

Then I got up and started getting my stuff put together. I don't want to do this but if it will make my grandma happy I will.
