The Water Sourcerå-Water fairy - Fountain troll-Källfly-etc
Spirits was said to watch over where water comes up from the earth. In the old Greek they were water nymphs called Naiad, they often showed themselves as young beautiful women and were known to see the future.
Even in Scandinavia these water spirits occurs, but we call them Water sourcerå. They are normally friendly adjusted towards humans and helps he who is respectful towards them.Every rå watches over their own source and towards their victims she confers the waters healing powers. Normally she keeps herself invisible or take her shape as a frog. If you see an extremely big toad or frog nearby a water source it isn't impossible that it is a Källfly. (The Rå in her animal form). Its been said that a water source were amphibians thrive always drinkable.
Some sources was known as free water sources, he who drank from them without sacrificing something to it's rå turned sick or suffered from accidents. Regardless it was always safest to greet the water source by giving a short pray or formula when you took the water. A chant from Jämtland follows like this: "Cross in the water! Trolls in the bottom!God give me pure water!" It was also the safest to go and get water in daytime, when the invisible powers was at the weakest. At night you didn't know what kinds of little beings could follow you into the house.A mother that recently given birth always made sure to bath their baby in water that the sun had been shining at.
The shiny mirror in a still water collection was consider to be a window to the other world.In some circumstances the spirit of the water source could show you glimpses of the future in this mirror,especially under the midsummer nights.It was however wisest to not look to long in the water source, if it wanted to do something bad could the rå that lived in the depth abduct your reflection and with that also the soul.
