The Shiprå- Shipnisse
Not all the nisses are bounded to the shore. Alot of ships has a Shiprå, with the same role as the well known gardentomte/ nisse has on the farm. He keeps in order over and under deck and makes sure the timber is free from woodworm and dry rot. The Shiprå also schools the sailors who are being careless or is working as drunk, even though he rarely shows himself. It's very fortunate to have a Shiprå on your ship but it's nothing you speak of out loud or brag about.-Such a coveted ship can easily get stolen.
The Shiprå follows the ship from when it's built until it's going under or until it gets worn out. They used to think that he came from the trees that was being cut down to build the ships keel.Sometimes more than one rå followed with the timber from the woods, the it could occur fights among the nissar of whom should be the rå of the ship. These fights could get really messy and sometimes these fights degenerates so hard that the ship ended up in splinters. Most of the time however the conflict could work out in other ways, which following story is telling us about:
A skipper had just built a new small cargo ship. Late on night a horrible noice was heard from the deck and he went up to see what was going on. He saw two small hubbies that was in the middle of a tremendous fight. "Why are you fighting?" The skipper wondered."We are fighting about who will guard the boat him or me.", one of the nissar replied."But i have guarded the wood that has been taken to the keelson ever since it was a little sprout."
"Then you shall have this small cargo ship.", the skipper said, "But the next ship i'm building the other one shall have." Then both the hubbies was satisfied and everything was back to normal.
