(UNEDITED)
Hoseok smiles and sags into himself in relief, "Hey, mama. I'm sorry mama. It's been too long since we've talked. I really should have called sooner..."
Her smile can be heard through the call, "Oh, baby. Don't worry about it at all. I'm glad you called though. Your father ran out to get something but he should be back an minute. Was there anything you wanted to say?"
Hoseok sniffles a little, "That I love you. I'm sorry I was so horrible as a kid... You worked so hard every day to give me everything I asked for and I just threw it back in your face..."
Her light laughter filters through the speaker, "Honey, I could never be mad at you. I should have spent more time with you. It was really unexcusable on my part. How's your racing going?"
"Oh! I actually just won my last race about an hour ago. So that was nice. The runner up, the guy I've mentioned, got a little creepy after but I think I took care of it. I hope."
Helen breaths in sharply, "Be careful. I don't like the sounds of him at all. Honestly, I'm concerned that- Honey! Hoseok-yah's on the phone!"
Hoseok listens to heavy footsteps then the reciever being fumbled between hands before the gruff voice of his aging father cuts through the background noise, "My son! How have you been? Found a good wife yet?"
Hoseok laughs at his father's neverending jests. Looking out the bus window, he sees his stop approaching fast. "No, papa. I haven't had the chance to find someone to date."
"Ah, what a shame. If you had your mother could stop worrying about if you're eating properly- Yah! Watch it devil woman- Aish! I'm sorry just stop hitting me!"
Hoseok laughs at his parent's playful banter. He's glad his parents didn't drift apart like so many of his friend's parents. Pulling on the cord above his head, the bell goes off and the bus driver starts to slow.
Her silk voice returns from the hushed conversation on the other line, "Hoseok, please make sure you're eating enough. Eat some fruits and vegetables every day and don't forget the meats-"
"Mom! I'm fine. I promise. You don't need to worry so much. I promise I will try to call more often but I'm planning a trip abroad so I may not be in contact for a while but I'll make sure to text you before I go and when I get back."
A soft sigh comes from the phone and Hoseok is unsure of who's it was. The bus stops and he steps off nodding to the driver as he goes. Looking around him, Hoseok begins walking towards the seven story hospital a block away. His father speaks first, "We love you, kid. Stay out of trouble and-"
"And don't forget to take care of yourself. If you ever need anything don't be afraid to-"
"Mom," Hoseok says softly, "I'm fine. Honestly. And I know you're there if I need anything but know that I'm here for you guys as well."
"Aw honey-"
"Shush woman. Just let him get off the phone alr- Ow! Okay okay! We love you, kid."
"Goodbye, sweety. Keep us update."
"I will, mom. I love you both." Hanging up, Hoseok's feet feel lighter.
Walking into the hospital, his steps didn't falter as he headed straight into his usual doctor's office. The nurse nodded more as a formality than a permission. The entire staff knew Hoseok either by face from his racing career or from paperwork from the office. Pausing only to knock on the door, Hoseok walks into the doctor's office and is already talking. "I'm going to Nepal so I need to make sure I'm not going to die while abroad."
