the following day, i stroll into class, extremely tired. i walk over to the back, sinking in my seat. i arrived class about a minute earlier than everyone. i pull out my phone, scrolling through instagram, an app i only use to watch satisfying videos.
soon, students started to fill all the seats, allowing class to begin. "as many of you emailed me last night, saying you've interviewed your assigned person, but not enough information for your final project." professor brown begins.
"i decided to change it up, all the instructions, directions, whatever you'd call it, i've emailed to you. from now on, you will be with this person for about ten weeks. you will be at their workplace, and if they allow, their home. you need to learn things about this person. you need to make a biography on this person." he states.
more time with jack? this is going to be a lot harder than i thought it would. i sigh in my seat, looking down at my notebook. "i did not explain this project too well, and i apologize on my part. this is not supposed to be a 'sit down interview'. i want you to become friends with your assignment."
-
i knock on Jack's office door. a loud, mumbled voice answers. "yes?"
i open the door slightly, showing my face in. "um, hi." i greet, awkwardly.
"oh, ms. rose, come in." he says, he stands up, standing in front of his desk. i open the door wider, allowing myself to walk into the room.
"um, so my professor did not explain our project all that well." i chuckle, taking a seat in my seat.
"was there a mistake?" he asks. his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
i nod slowly, "well, sort of. here." i say, handing him the paper that professor brown has handed to everyone. it explained the project much better than him.
"you're supposed to spend at least three days a week, for ten weeks with me..." he trails, reading the list to himself.
he looks back up to me, a small smile on his lips. "okay. i can manage you coming into my meetings on the days we schedule." he looks back down at the paper.
"it says you have to you must spend time with this person and their family until you feel like you have enough information for this project." his eyebrows furrow as he reads on. he looked over the paper again, his hand running through his hair. "this requires a lot of time." he chuckled slightly, looking back up.
"you have to meet my family?"
"yes..." i answered slowly.
"mhm." he nodded. "you have to come to my house?" a confused expression takes over his face.
"only if it's okay with you." i answer. i attract his attention, "i could ask to have another person for my proje-"
"that won't be necessary." he cuts me off. "i guess we could make this work. i'm having family over tomorrow night, you should come."
my eyes widen slightly. "um, okay." i nod my head vigorously.
he chuckles. "so, do we tell them, it's for my project?" i ask him.
"yes. that's the reason, isn't it?" he says, looking slightly confused.
"yes, right. okay."
"so, how much do you need to know about me?" he asks, standing up to sit at his desk.
i lightly shrug my shoulders, "as much as you tell me." i answer.
he nods again, "okay..."
"i feel like if you spend at least a few more days with me, we won't be strangers, ms. rose." the corners of his lips rise upward.
