When a nursing student goes to clinicals, they normally follow one head nurse around and that nurse shows them the ropes of everything: but when your head nurse calls in sick, you apparently get stuck at the front desk being a receptionist- which is totally annoying to the actual receptionist because they got degrees too and feel belittled. So, I spend my shift sitting in the corner, playing games on my phone, and trying my best to ignore the middle aged, receptionist named Nora who glares at me from her spot at the desk. When I was told that Melanie (my head nurse) was sick, I felt bad for her: but was also really hoping they would send me home for the night; because honestly, with a guy like Ryan waiting at home for me, who wouldn't want to get off early? But of course my luck wasn't that good and I'd get stuck being the annoying nursing student bothering the receptionist. I raise a brow when my phone dings with a text alert.

Guess who has a hot date Friday!!! Hint: It's MEEEEEEEEE

I laugh softly at Maya's text, earning another glare and eye roll from the bitter receptionist. I refrain from sticking my tongue out, and text Maya back.

It's with Ben right?

Ryan and I have a bet going on when they'll get together. I guessed within a week: but he said Ben is actually shy about asking girls out so he'd give it two weeks. I knew Maya is not shy and would ask him if he didn't make the move. Besides, they literally slept together the other night- if you count passing out from being wine drunk on your best friend's couch together as sleeping together. I had a good laugh when I went into my room for my book and found them both cuddled up, and passed out together. Ryan took a picture of Ben with his mouth hanging open for blackmail while I made sure Maya looked like sleeping beauty in case Ben woke up first.

YES. I'm excited, can you tell!!!!!????

"I'm looking for Julie Montgomery," A familiar voice sounds in my head, and I feel my skin crawl, and my neck heat as I make eye contact with the last person I wanted to see. Nora looks over her shoulder at me, and suddenly her glare is trained on my ex boyfriend.

"She's busy. She has rounds, and no time for personal visits. Unless you're bleeding where I can't see, or dying of a disease I need you to leave." She motions toward the door before typing on her computer. I refrain from gaping and look back to my phone. I could hug this lady who has hated me for the past few hours; however, I'm not sure if she thinks he's my boyfriend and hates me even more for having him come here, or if she realizes by my face (which is horrified I'm sure), that I don't want him near me. Whatever her motive, I make a note in my phone to buy her lunch next time.

"That's fine. I can wait." Miles smiles, before winking at me and walking toward the lobby. He makes himself comfortable in a chair, and I find myself swallowing hard as I realize he means it. I have two more hours for my shift; there's no way he'll wait that long. I contemplate calling Ryan, but I don't want to bother him on his day off, and I really don't want to turn into one of those girls who calls her boyfriend over any inconvenience in her life. I scroll through Pinterest, deciding to wait it out; Miles isn't so obsessive that he'll stay in that chair for two hours- he's surely got better things to do.

I swallow hard as the clock on the wall shows that it's the end of my shift. My eyes wander to Miles, who is smiling contently as he watches some game on the lobby TV; he hasn't moved for two hours, patiently waiting as though he's here because I'm having car trouble and is simply waiting to take me home. No thank you; I have a new boyfriend to help me, and he's more of a man than you'll ever be, I shout it to him in my mind. I look over at Nora, who eyes me suspiciously.

"Are you okay?" She finally asks, looking over at Miles, before squinting at me. "Is he bothering you?"

I bite my lip, before leaning toward her, making sure my back is turned to Miles. "Would you please call security to escort me to my car? I don't feel comfortable walking alone." I tell her quietly, my eyes fleeting toward my ex, who watches the game with that same stupid smile. Nora leans back in her chair, studying me, before nodding and picking up her phone. I quietly gather my things, and wait in my seat for one of the security guards to show up. Nora has a quiet conversation, before twirling around in her chair and leaning toward me.
