Chapter 10

Hey Caelen, dinner's ready." Elaine said. "Thanks," I said. "So, do you want to say tonight's prayer?" Robert asked. I hesitated. "Go on." he said smiling. "Um, dear God..um thank you? Thank you for the food. Amen." I said. I felt so embarrassed. Alyson stifled a laugh. I felt like punching her like I did Mrs. Bedford. We ate Elaine's homemade Chinese food. "So, children..schools in two days! Winter break is almost over. " Elaine said. I nearly choked. "Excuse me?" I said. "Don't worry, we got what you needed! We just have it somewhere safe. Alyson is a senior, Kobe is a junior, Caelen, you'll be a sophomore, and Angel's in eighth grade, Tyler's in second, and Ricky is going to be a kindergartner next year." Elaine said. "I'm.. I'm nervous." I said. "Don't worry, we'll make sure that Alyson and Kobe will help you." Robert said.

School? Aldine Senior High School? I was so afraid. I didn't know anyone. The first day, I woke up super early and decided what to wear. I ended up putting on my skinny jeans and the cute sweater they got me for Christmas, and my Uggs. I snuck in Alyson's room to use the curling iron. I was so nervous and my hands were shaking so I burnt my forehead! I yelped and jumped. A welt formed on my forehead. Just great! I thought. After I finished I tried putting ice on my head. It didn't work. At least it was on the side. I covered it up with my hair. I quickly put the iron back. I waited for everyone else to wake up. Pretty soon one by one the Metts family was up.

After breakfast we drove to school. First Ricky at daycare, then Tyler, then Angel, then the rest of us. "Kobe take her to the main office to pick up her schedule." Elaine said before driving off. I gulped and shifted my backpack to one shoulder. We headed to main office. "Hey, Caelen right?" the woman asked. I nodded. "I'm Mrs. Weiss, and I have your schedule for you." she said smiling. I slowly grabbed it from her. I looked at it.

1st. Spanish 1

2nd- Geometry

3rd. Chemistry

4th- P.E

5th- lunch

6th- English 10 HN

7th- World History 2 HN

8th- Art

Wow, they must have copied my schedule from my old school. "Come on, I'll show you where first period is." Kobe said. We walked down the hall, the walls were painted. They looked pretty. We found a room with little maracas and sombrero stickers around the door. Kobe knocked. A lady opened the door. "¡Hola! Who is this?" she asked. "Caelen, she's the new student. I'm her older brother." Kobe said. "Oh jezz, Caelen, venir dentro. I'm Mrs. Castillo." she said smiling. I smiled and headed in. Everyone laid eyes on me. "Class, este es nuestro nuevo estudiante, hacerla sentir bienvenida." the teacher said. I smiled. "Okay, take a seat next to Valerie. She's the girl with the purple hoodie." she said. I looked over, and the girl looked up at me and smiled. I smiled back and sat down next to her. I pulled out my notebook. This seems like this is gonna be a fun class.

When the bell rang, I asked a girl in my class to show me where the geometry room was. She had raven black hair, and cold blue eyes. "Oh yes, go down this hall, take a left, and then the third door on the right." She said flashing me a smile. I followed the directions she gave me. Something wasn't right. The tag next to the door said "Custodian Room." What? I looked around, kids were chilling and talking and fooling around. I bumped into Valerie from Spanish. "Lost, kiddo?" she asked. "Yea...I'm looking for Mrs. Pile, Geometry?" "Oh..well she's definitely not here, follow me." Valerie said pulling her hood over head more. She dropped me off. "See ya, hey actually...wanna come sit next to me at lunch?" she said. "Sure! I know where to find you, purple hoodie." I said smiling. She smiled and left. "Hey, you must be Caelen?" Mrs. Piles said leaning against the door. She had curly blonde hair, big brown eyes, and a hourglass figure. "Y-yes." I said. "Come in." she said. I walked in, and prepared myself for the stares. "Everyone, this is Caelen, she's our new student. Perfect timing, we're reviewing an old unit, and starting another next week." Mrd. Pile said. After everyone came in, she closed the door. "Take a seat anywhere you'd like." Mrs. Pile said. I took a seat next to this guy who looked like a hot nerd. He smiled at me. I looked away and tried to focus. After class the kid walked up to me. "Hey, I'm Dustin." the guy said. I dropped my books.....

"Dustin? You look so familiar." I said. "Well, that's cause I know you." he said smiling. "Well, I did know a Dustin, we went to elementary school, and the first year of middle school but he moved....wait....." I said. He smiled. "Yep." I pulled him into a big hug. "Oh my gosh! I missed you!!" I said. I picked my books up. "Wow, dude. Like its been forever." I said, tears strolled down my face. "Yea, how's everything, you moved out here?"he asked. "My parents were getting worse, so a family adopted me." I said. "That's great! What's your locker number?" he asked. "325." I said. "I'm 324, meet me after school." He said. "Okay! Bye!" I said. Wow, I was relieved I knew someone.

During lunch, I scanned the cafeteria for Valerie. She was eating. I walked over to her. "Hey!" I said. "Awesome, you made it." Valerie said. The table was empty. "So, where's the crew?" I asked. "I don't really have one." she said looking down. "That's cool, well I'm glad I'm here." I said eating a fry. "I don't want to seem rude, but how come you have your hood on?" I asked. She hesitated and looked away.

"I'm sorry." I said. "No, it's okay. I- I had cancer." Valerie said. I gasped. "Don't worry, I beat it, I'm just waiting for my hair to grow back." she said. I patted her hand. "I'm glad." I said. She smiled.

After school I met Dustin. "Hey," I said. "Heyyy. Wanna come over?" he asked. "Sure!" Let me just text my mom. I sent her a text. "Okay, let's go." I said.
