His Nerd

Chapter 9

I wake up during the night and I check my phone to see what time it was. The light of the phone blinding my eyes; sence, I was not accustomed to the bright light.

"2:36" read the clock. I'm so thirsty but I don't want to get up, but I'm so thirsty and my throat is so dry.

I get up and walk quietly down stairs, so that I don't wake up anyone. I make it to the kitchen without making a noise. Mission accomplished!! I internally high five myself.

I poured myself a cup of water and just stood there thinking about the situation my parents put me through. Like I literally could've stayed at home alone for the night, not like anything bad was going to happen to me.

"Can't sleep?" A deep voice said behind me and it made me jump. Not to mention that I spilled water on the floor. Gladly the cup didn't fall and shatter.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Here let me help you."

Did I forget to mention that it's Ethan who is talking and he's literally shirtless. For some reason. Like it's no big deal but, HE'S SHIRTLESS I TELL YOU!!

"It's...it's fine I got it." I say my voice shaking a little and trying to avoid making eye contact."Where do you keep your towels so that I can clean this up?"

Ethan does not say anything he simply starts to move forward and looking straight at me. It is making me so uncomfortable and I just start to back away, but it doesn't work out to well. I took two steps and my back was against the sink. Ethan is now to close to me that I can feel his breath fanning my face.

This it too much for me but I can't move."W..what are you doing?" I managed to ask him trying my best to make and not make eye contact. I instead look down but it was a bad idea. Me eyes land on his lips for a second, bad idea! He does not say anything and simply reaches down to my waist. His hand brushes my waist and I flinch at the sudden touch, my cheeks turning hot. He backs away a little and hands me a towel that was apparently behind me. That is why he was so close to me. Ahh my dumb and here I was thinking something else.

"Thanks." I say as I duck and start cleaning the water water from the floor.

"So...why are down here? It's just, I thought everyone was asleep." I say avoiding eye contact

"Nah. I couldn't sleep and I heard someone down here so I thought I would come and check." Ethan says.

"Oh." Is all that comes out of my mouth. I'm so dumb. Like 'oh' who the heck says 'oh'?

"Could you not sleep as well?" Ethan asked me snapping me out of my little thought.

"Yeah. I guess, I was just very thirsty so I came to get some water. But since you scared me I am now very much awake." I tell him with a half smile.

"I'm sorry for scaring you."

"No, it's ok really. Don't worry about it."

"Lainey, why do you not look at me or talk to me? Why are you always trying to avoid me in school and out of school?" Ethan asked. His voice sounding a little hurt.

Oh gosh what am I supposed to tell him?! You make me uncomfortable, scared in a way, feel weird about you, make me blush? "I..um." Lainey don't say anything stupid. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to avoid you or anything. Don't take it wrong. I am just missing home and...and I just find it better when I am alone." You idiot! You didn't even answer his question. It's fine I'm just going to try and avoid it...at least as best as I can.
